I started work on Saturdays as a griddle chef at age 15 in a town centre café for £8 a day. Also used to work on weekdays in the school holidays.

Those were the days when you could go on a Saturday night with £1 , get drunk and still have enough left for a bag of chips on the way home 🤨😃.

Joined the RAF at 17 , already had 5 jobs by then . Paperboy, C&A Saturday , Pig farm (holidays + odd evening ) , Laundry then an aerosol factory for the 3 months before I enlisted .

No such thing as an "entitled generation " in those days , still shouldn't be in my mind 😣

I don’t remember which came first but it was either egg collecting for one farm or clearing woodland for another. I did them both at the same time for some time though.

My first part-time job was a paper round, then numerous catering/waitressing jobs at college. I was training to be a chef so this kind of come with the territory

I was an apprentice slaughterman (more boy really at 14 ) it taught me all about the insides of the job , spleen , liver etc . It's not something you forget your first kill . I ate meat for years that I didn't have to pay for and I knew how it died . I'm too old now but still trap the odd mole or two for a snack . Image
