Fish and Chips for £ 32.50

News

I've just read this and i though I would share this with you all.

Food critics are raving about this fishy dish dubbing it once-in-a lifetime. Despite the hefty price tag that is roughly 500 times more expensive then the standard fish supper.

Served with just seven chips delicately sprinkled with herb garnish and accompanied by chunky tartare Pease pudding and curry sauce this fish and chip meal is now served at a five star hotel in London.

The chef behind this high end takeaway meal is tv Tom Berridge who serves the meal at his new bar and grill in Corinthian hotel.

When I read this I though it was a lot of money for a small meal. All so the money would go to wards my shopping. And i was shocked that people would pay for it. And all so do not know the chef. Cant say ive saw him on tv. What do you make of it. 🐟🐟🐟🍟🍟

Hmm I think I'd feel a bit ripped off 😂 The best fish and chips are always from chip shops by the coast. We found a real gem in Blackpool. It was actually quite out of the way, about a mile walk from the centre, but the place was full and the food was amazing. My 3year old even ate the fish and she hates fish 🤣 Only paid I think £12 for 2 adult meals and a kids meal.

We could eat like kings for a week on that money 😱 there is only two of us but still.. a lot of money for one dinner. I guess if you have the cash to spare why not 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think I’ll stick to my local 😂

wtf il stick to my £1 fries from tesco & a box of 4 battered cod for £1, these days i begrudge paying £2.10 for a portion of chips especially when i could get a large portion for 80p that was some years ago but not that many lol. same nicolajaynehend i would rather put the money towards my shopping bill some people got more money than sense.

TBH, never liked that combination. Not much of a fan of chicken shops either.

I'm not really surprised by this type of story anymore. £32.50 doesn't seem that bad when you compare it to a £1,000 doughnut or £8,000 cocktail. You're paying a premium for the location, chef, quality of ingredients, etc. Most people wouldn't be willing pay this and there is plenty of other places to go in London. Although, I think I'll stick to £2.20 chips from my local chippie 🍟

I agree with ACR you are paying for a top location with all the overheads that entails, Tom Kerridge's name, waiter service and premium quality ingredients. I wouldn't pay it but many will. But most of you seem to be quite lucky with your chippies - my local chippie is £9.25 for regular cod and regular chips - wonderfully fresh and delicious and we get a vinyl bench patched up with gaffer tape to sit on while it is being cooked but I think that is expensive.

I think whoever wrote the piece got it a bit wrong though. If average fish and chips costs about £7 then 500 times that would be £3,500. I think they must have meant 500% which would be 5 times mark up. But anyway, I wouldn't pay £32.50 or £3,500!!! Think we'll stick to our local chippies ay Nicola?

I've a very good chippy. A very large fish supper is only £7.50. That £32.50 would go to wards my shopping. And the meal looked very small. The fish would be gone in two bits. And only 7 chips. You would be still be wanting more to eat. 💐

nicolajaynehend yes I remember when it became fashionable for restaurants to serve meals with about 5 peas surrounding one potato and a bit of meat or fish and called it a name i can't remember. Round here £7.50 is medium size but as you say my weekly shop wouldn't be much more than £32.50

lynnibis Ithink the name you couldn't remember was "rip off" well that's what most customers (except those with more money than sense) called it.😀

davidstockport i have remembered now, it was nouvelle cuisine! You know, when you eat out and pay through the nose then have to eat again when you get home.

The price will also be based on the overheads of the restuarant and if you are in a fancy place then it will cost more. I still wouldn't pay it though! I would rather put the money towards my weekly shopping and if I wanted fish and chips I would go to Morrisons or the local chippy!

I got interested when £32.50 was said to be about 500 times the price of a standard fish supper - I read on to see where we could get a standard fish supper for between six and seven pence, I couldn't find it! - Have I missed something?😀
