Fish and Chips - Newspaper or Plate?

Ask a Question

I love Chip Shop fish and chips and eat it from the “newspaper” as I feel this tastes best. I believe that some transfer their fish supper onto a plate.

Which do you prefer?

I prefer to eat them from the newspaper personally, although my local serves them in polystyrene trays instead. Still, less washing up to do, I guess!

When I get chips from the fish and chip shop I eat them straight from the paper. It does feel more enjoyable eating them that way for some reason.

I agree but my husband always puts them on a plate. I also like lots and lots of salt and vinegar🙂

We rarely get a chippy but I can't remember the last time that I got chips in paper. Ours always come in the awful shutable poly trays.

Is it just me that thinks chips from the chippy are not as good anymore? As a kid used to love getting chips in newspaper with batter on top & heaps of salt & vinegar.

Nadiaparveen yes. I completely agree. Although our chip shop doesn’t use newspaper anymore

we normally but extra large portions and several extras and then share them out - so they end up on plates. Cant say I am that fussed what I eat them off - as longs as we get plenty of them! Lots of salt and vingegar and pickled eggs and onions and curry sauce too.

BlueEyesX we rarely get a chippy so when we do, it's a real treat. We savour it in the newspaper.....I'm sure it enhances the flavour and there's probably a scientific explanation to back that up somewhere 🤣

Chip shops and take aways seem to have become so expensive recently. Wonder why that is?

We plate it up because we generally buy a large portion to split between us. That might sound tight but believe me it still gives large helpings. Might be because my husband puts a note in their staff Christmas jar and they remember.

We get fish and chips on a weekly basis and always bring them home and transfer them to a plate, probably under the pretence of being civilised or maybe so that no-one takes them off us? 🤣 Image

I feel so sorry for the fish in that gif, life taken away so quickly. It won't stop me enjoying fish and chips though which I typically transfer to a plate but eat from the paper occasionally.

on a plate for us as we like our curry sauce and mushy peas too and it works better that way.

Newspaper on a plate already warmed up from the oven, buttered bread on the side with a nice cuppa on hand 😋
