Flu Vaccination

Other

Have you had your flu vaccination yet? I had mine today in a branch of Boots. It’s easy to book online so just do it especially as we’re all allowed to socialise etc.

What do you think of this?

I don't fall into any category for the flu jab this year, (did get it when pregnant), but just got the appointment for my 2 & 3 old to get theirs. I think it's the nasal spray for them.

Ring your local pharmacy, mine done under 65 first. You didn’t need to have any health conditions ect.

So if worth it to contact them (that’s if you want it of course)

Thanks LeanneWard I honestly thought it was only for those 'invited' or in a certain category, e.g. health staff, teachers, over 65, existing health problems, pregnant, etc

Will definitely have a look at my local pharmacy! Both boys will definitely be getting theirs too 🤧

FG280 To clarify anyone can get the vaccine but many of those who are under fifty years of age will have to pay for it. The cost will vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. Can't give an exact amount but should be somewhere between £8 and £15,

This might help: https://www.lovemoney.com/news/18079/cheapest-flu-jab-vaccine-uk-season-cost

I had the flu vaccine exactly four weeks ago (11th Sept) I also had my Covid booster jab a few days ago. I'm all jabbed up for the winter now.😀

Had mine last weekend , Ok had a reaction (runny nose for 2 or 3 days ) - I'm a big boy so handled that OK !

I will not argue with the anti vaxers -where there is no sense there is no reason 🙄. Isn't it fortunate for those antivaxers that the majority of the population are vaccinated and thus protect the antivaxers from serious illness or worse !

Carry on with your lives imbeciles , and just be grateful that 94% + of our population do not agree with your views (Thus protecting your selfish ignorant self ! ) .

Our immunity to flu is the lowest it has ever been (due to lockdowns and the precautions we all took against COVID last year ) . Only the thickest of the thick could possibly argue that they don't need it !

Getting the flu when young and healthy may not kill you itself , but will certainly leave you very vulnerable to the effects of COVID . They are two very different viruses - but if you catch one , then the other you will be very ,very unwell (being polite!) .

Why oh why do folks not educate themselves ? Or are some people just too thick to understand the risk to themselves , their families and in fact to the wider population by needlessly taking vital NHS resources when they get ill by their own misguided selfish stupidity 😫.

Please have the jab help us , help you , help everyone

Shouldn't Flu jab be free for everyone?

Unfortunately it’s not but it’s worth paying for the £8 jab, better safe than sorry.

Pjran It should be free to everyone especially with all the rising costs we have at the moment and the cuts. Sadly to some people £8 will be too much and wont be eligible for a free vaccine so will just go without the vaccine.

I was hoping 2021 would be different to 2020 for the flu jab . So when the government started there campaign I got a text from our worse than useless doctors surgery , normal up to now but the text said contact your surgery to book for your jab , still normal so I called the surgery and was told they was only doing over 70's , so I called on behalf of my father in law whose 75 and I said I wanted to book him in for his jab so and bare this in mind they said after 10 minutes difference saying I wanted tobook his flu jab and guess what they hadn't got any flu vaccines yet . What I have done since the pandemic started is I record all calls now and I now don't bother complaining the surgery manager as its like them marking there own homework .I now go to there superiors the health authority and our mp but he's on a par with our surgery and is as much use as a chocolate tea cup .

I don't normally bother, but I am seriously considering it this time round. Even though my immune system is more or less top notch, it doesn't hurt to help it out a bit. 🙂

Absolutely right . The flu jab is redesigned every year to keep up with the latest strains of flu . Flu is a very different beast from COVID , so your COVID jabs will not protect you against flu (or vice versa) .

We all know that we that there is still a chance we can still catch COVID even if double jabbed . Although normally protected against the worst effects of COVID I'm not sure we could fight it off if suffering from a really bad dose of the Flu at the same time ?

My mum will get hers done soon. Normally she hates having it done, but this time around she welcomes it.

Going to have mine for the first time this year, having it at the same time as a covid booster. I decided to as the NHS does not appear to be in good shape, it took me a week and a half to get a phone call appointment booked last time I tried. It might be just me the Doctor does not want to talk to, but I expect it is due to massive demand they are managing.
