Food Banks. Roadside Collections?

Over the last few years I have realised that it is quite difficult to volunteer for things in this PC age we live in. Rightly or wrongly disclosures seem to be needed for everything and one year when I volunteered to help the homeless at Xmas it was a case of 'no ta, we're fine'.
During all the lockdowns there have been many times I would like to donate food to banks but having no car temporarily it has been impossible. But last week working with my boss he stopped to pass the time of day car to car with a neighbour who was doing a tin collection in his street.
I felt this was a wonderful idea and if it was available in every street I am sure lots of people would give. Even one item close to sell by date from each home would fill the food banks. They could also drop off food parcels to those on a list as being in need.
I would definitely volunteer, would you?
A woman in my street had been collecting every 2 months during lockdown for the local church food bank. I don’t drive so would be difficult people had been collecting clothes toys etc. I noticed mind a few people had complained about it with people that were already on benifits given extra food weekly money etc became first to be given hand outs. Whice I totally understand why they angry when people lost jobs businesses, people were angry. In my estate alone where houses are worth over 250000 everything lost had to move in to rental few marriage break ups and more
Anything like this must be seen to be fair. People need to ask to go on a list with maybe a brief explanation of their situation (to avoid cheats) and then fairly distributed without favour or prejudice.
I just wish I could get rid of the food I have spare which will very soon be heading for the bin.
There’s always Olio. I think it’s an app based thing but people would have to come to your house to collect the food.
I didn't know such a thing existed so will have a look and see if one near me, thanks Grannyclock.
UPDATE. Just walked back from shops and passed a local church. There was a poster in the window listing several churches, 2 within walking distance, that run food banks so I am assuming I can drop food there too.
Over the last year I've preferred to donate through local groups, Sorry Lynibis but they are on Facebook. 
They collect and ensure that they go to people who have 'escaped' relationships. I agree that it seems quite difficult to volunteer even with a DBS. I love the street collection idea and will follow that one up.
It’s a good idea, although food banks are quite easy to donate to as there are already multiple ways of donating to them. You can drop items off direct at your local food bank, donate online or donate in the trolleys in supermarkets. I have done all three with ease so you can do whatever suits you best 
As I explained I currently have no transport and I can't remember the last time I went to a supermarket and I didn't know about online donation. Do they come and collect? But as I said problem now solved as I can pop to my local church.
