Food Crisis Has Me Heartbroken
Other
People of my town are almost self locked now. The only places you can see humans are local supermarkets. Most of isles are empty now we are out of rolls.
People are fighting over tins and other food may be we survive virus but not each othe. Totally heartbroken
This situation will calm down. People seem to have locked down temporarily (though not everywhere) and will begin to accept and realise they are not going to starve or die. If they choose a course of action that does not harm others don't upset yourself about it.
It is understandable that people will be frightened and overreact as we have not gone through anything as serious as this since probably the second world war. Boris said worst thing for a generation. Well I would like to know what happened during the last generation or the one before as I certainly don't remember anything as bad as this.
Don't be heartbroken, keep a stiff upper lip, do what you can to remain upbeat and calm around others and we will get through this, just as humans have done throughout the ages.
BoJo may have been referring to Sars or Bird Flu. I think we all just need to calm the heckers down about this. People are perpetuating this situation. If peeps see it on the news or social media, then it gets a reaction.
I think from a psychological point of view the way people are reacting is fascinating. I am sure we will see both the worst of human kind and the very best too with acts of kindness in the community. I am hoping the latter has a ripple effect and people keep this in mind for the sake of others and the dignity of themselves!
It really doesn't make any sense does it,I've seen empty shelves in my local supermarket, mainly toilet paper, tins, bread&baby formula.
It's very sad how rational thinking went out the window.
Hi, I really can't understand it either. It is so sad and I feel for people with babies as it must be worrying to see the empty shelves x
I went to the store yesterday and I felt bad when I saw the shelves empty. No pasta, no rice.
Price does not even matter, even the most expensive was out of stock. My first thought was the elderly who goes to the store once a week with the little trolley to get the stuff for the week. They can not stock up. I do not stock up. It is just got crazy. People are out of their minds. You really need like 30packs of pasta at home?
I tell u lettuce will be not out of stock, because if goes bad...seems like the people who can not afford to stock up just get to live on the no bad carb diet.
Yesterday my brother got into fight with a guy because he taken all the pasta while an old lady was begging to give her a pack. My brother said to him think her as your mother. Finally after an argument he given one packet to the lady. I rather die with honor then become that inhuman.
KijManhas I am sorry you cannot see my replies nor see how I tried to cheer you up in my opening comment. I have no idea where all this hate is coming from and I would be more than happy to apologise for any offence caused if someone would be good enough to point out my critical comments. I am not sure what internet nano is but if I am commenting too often then I will cease. As it is I actually go through the chat and if I see someone has 0 or only 1 comment I will deliberately comment in order to push their topic up.
I have seen people on here have really bad arguments but I will only stick up for the underdog and if my comments are offensive I truly do not see how and can only assume they are being read wrongly.
Maybe folk do not like me having an opinion on nearly every topic but when you are old and live alone you have amassed a lifetime of wisdom and knowledge and I try to help where I can, if anyone does not like the advice they do not have to take it or can pass by.
I have sometimes criticised those who do not reply to their own topics and boring topics but many have agreed and they can't be that bad judging by the likes, which I freely give to others too, especially if I see they have 2 and Need one more for extra points.
I said recently that I would bow out but decided not to be thin skinned and felt the 'friends' on here far outweighed the nasties. Well I can't take any more unpleasantness so wow now I can devote more time to my books rather than wasting time on here. Bye.
angemski MrsCraig JoTarpley RegularComper90 and all the others I have enjoyed having chats with I wish you all the best and in the words of Spock 'Live long and prosper'
Lynibis as mentioned before I have not seen anything offensive off you we be sad to see you go as you do give good advice and as a 36 year old the older people are far nicer and respected by myself and many others here I do hope your name might pop up again keep safe and ignore the haters.
Lynibis Hi Lynibis, I'm fairly new to chat and I would like to say that you have offered invaluable advice that I have really enjoyed reading. I have liked chatting with you and I hope you are ok. This person stated on another thread yesterday that they had muted another woman. There is a lot of unpleasantness on here at a time where people should be kind. I just wanted to say that you will be missed and I wish you well x
Ann1984 angemski Dani1 etc thanks for your kind words. I am beginning to see (sadly) why there is so much mental illness around these days and I firmly believe it is due (in the main) to social media. People say things they wouldn't otherwise, sat anonymously behind a keyboard. When I read the comment above my stomach turned over and I felt an adrenalin rush up to my chest neck and face.
I honestly do wish someone could point out anything I have said that is so bad. I freely admit that i have said the odd thing about chat in general and even pointed out things that grit the teeth of myself and others, but nothing as bad as above. I quickly rescinded my error over gay/guy. But there are others on here who seem to think it is the domain of the young and keep referring to old grannies etc.
I think I need a week to lick my wounds and calm down and then I will tentatively feel my way back (oh no cry the dissenters!) with more unwanted comments, advice and platitudes.
I will miss you all too much to stay away too long and wrote in a fit of pique. You are my lifeline to the outside world on weekends like this when I won't see anyone from Friday evening to Monday morning. But please don't think of me as a sad old woman as my son kept me on the phone for about an hour this evening in the middle of a good film lol.
See you soon, Have a good week
Lyn
Lynibis I have not seen any offensive comments that you have made. You have offered some very invaluable advice and I have enjoyed chatting with you. I hope you don't take this persons words to heart and you do continue to contribute to chat, but I understand that sometimes we need a break for our own mental health.
Lynibis Whoa cowboy! You canβt please everyone, remember?
Take a few days off, and come back refreshed.
In the meantime look up Ben Websterβs jazz album Jazz βRound Midnight on YouTube and have a listen. Good music to sooth frayed nerves!
No more than 3 days off is permitted, or you will fined 240 toilet rolls
Johnny In USA same happened, people bought all the toilet tissues and they also crazy to buy guns. DOUBLE TAP hahahaha.
What got me on a recent visit was both husbands and wives each having a trolley so that they could get around the buying restrictions.
People dont think about those who dont have enough money to buy for week? How would they survive in that time?
I did not buy a single extra thing if we have money it doesn't mean we occupy the all food.
We should think about small businesses at this time and use them. A lot of the small family run businesses have set up free delivery services to help others and keep themselves a float. You can see the divide at times like this. The selfish ones and the ones who are offering to help the ones in need. Such a shame
My friend has 3 young boys and her and her husband can never keep the cupboards full at the best of times and she was really worried going shopping yesterday that nothing would be left.
I really hope that this situation will improve. I feel it is so selfish to buy in this way. An article came up on my phone with pictures of people and their hoards of food and cleaning products etc. They were proud of themselves! They should be ashamed.
Hi Loislane it really is unreal. Hopefully they didn't receive any payment for their stories x
Dani1 so bad I've had nightmare getting stuff but I'm not panicking even though I suffer anexety bad lol x
Loislane it's extremely difficult for older people and those who are disabled or have babies. We can really see the selfish side of some people but I truly hope the beautiful side of others
Dani1 my mum dad worrying now and I can't help but worry for them stay safe hun xx
Loislane It's so difficult, really is x I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. Thanks very much, stay safe too
I can understand people stocking up not knowing if or when weβll be in self isolation but I believe the supermarkets should implement a level of control to stop people taking it all. Try and be kind everyone and leave some for others please.
That's what I'm saying Pjran, what is going on, it's the shops, why are they letting people do this, it's madness, people who are on low incomes or something aren't going to be able to stock pile, some people are already relying on food banks, who will be able to help them if there's no stock, people are greedy and selfish and don't even consider others, it's a case of 'I'm alright Jack, sod you lot!!' x
JoTarpley I agree with u so much in this matter in aldi your just allowed one pack loo roll etc there's no tins pasta nothing was nightmare I'm safer stay in haha i shouldnt laugh id cry was actually a fight in asda yesterday over loo rolls and milk honestly some people x
We should all be thinking of those who are more vulnerable than us and prioritise those people. I feel really sorry for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions at the moment.
RegularComper90 thank you. Iβm in the vulnerable group not because of my age, Iβm not over 70.
RegularComper90 I totally agree. There are so many people that are vulnerable. Hopefully shops will start implementing where the first hour of trading is only open to older people etc so they can buy everyday items. This is happening in parts of Ireland. I am hopeful that it will happen here if it isn't already x
People are literally fighting for pasta I went to get pasta form Tesco and then a worker pit out a pallet of pasta within a few minutes it was finished.
what I think is crazy, there is plenty of stock at manufacturing companies and in warehousing.
But logistics can't cope with distibution.
This is what can happen if there loads of big stores.
Shop local ours are well stocked compared to the big supermarkets help them and support them.
I was in Tesco last week and it was fine. I go every Tuesday morning.
Today it was chaos, shelves were empty and people pushing past me.
If people don't know if we are getting locked down it's worse.
Hardly any tins of fruit or veg and frozen section the same.
Plenty of baby formula which was the only good thing.
