Food Price Increases

Ask a Question

Been noticing recently that a number of items in the local supermarket has been sneakily increasing in price . Well anyway today I went into my local Sainsburys today and on the bakery cake counter I noticed that the Fresh Cream Cakes have jumped up in price from £1.10 last week to £1.50 this week, How can this be justified, surely it's just another case of the supermarkets ripping us off.

Has anyone else noticed these rises recently ?

I noticed the supermarkets and manufacturers will decrease what you get and increase the price for example toothpastes now the toothpastes are reduced by 25ml from 100ml to 75ml.

Yeah, some pasta went up from 1 pound to 1.10. I saw that also milk went up from 1.00 to 1.10 in the local store.

Basic food prices rising.. Also seems like Tesco rise the doughnuts 20p and they become more expensive than and they become more expensive than CO-OP ones...🙃 really? Supermarkets have these price strategies they put up some price and reduce some other stuff, so better to shop around or go to the local Asian store where they sell all the fruit and veg per kg so u get more for your money.

I have to agree, I used to see Asda as one of the cheaper options when it come down to doing the weekly shop but now im not so sure. Ever so slightly prices have been on the increase for a while now - not just luxuries either it’s the basics too

Supermarkets like to mess with your head when it comes to pricing, I like to call it the fiddlers elbow tactic, one week the product will be for example, 8 pack of Fanta at Asda at the moment is £3.65 but at the weekend it was £2.50, give it a week and it'll be back down, this is happening right across the stores and not only does it p!ss us all off as we're getting robbed, it stresses the staff out as there's not enough hours in the day to keep on top of it, especially with the staffing levels being cut to save costs.

Sainsburys have been hiking up their prices for a while. Notice large bottle vintage cider goi g from £2 to £2.15 to £2.60 in a few month.

Yet the same thing sold by aldi on a slightly different label (yes its exactly the same product by the same manufacturer.) Has maintained its price of £1.69
