Do You Forage?
Ask a Question
With fruit season on the horizon I am looking forward to plums, pears, apples, figs, raspberries, blackberries and cherries all within walking distance of my house. Now I just need to start hoarding jars!
You're really lucky to have those options close by. I'm having a similar problem with mushrooms from kits that I'd forgotten - started them off and can't keep up with how huge the crop is. My OH keeps asking why we are eating so many pickles and 'jar food'........... dried mushrooms, pickled mushrooms, mushroom sauce.......my recycling bin has never seen so few glass items.
We have an abundance of Damson trees, plum, pear and apple trees and I don't eat any of these fruits.
We don’t have much, but we always look forward to picking the wild blackberries growing nearby when they’re ready
My dog likes blackberries and generally picks his own and surprisingly doesn't prickle his nose
I wish, in London it's not really possible. I had blackberries in my previous garden but no anymore.
I don't go out of my way to forage, but if I'm going for a walk and stumble on a bramble bush I will happily partake.
I love foraging. There's some great wild garlic available right now which makes for a lovely pesto.
wild garlic, 1 large bunch, washed
curly parsley, 1 small bunch, washed
60g of pine nuts, toasted
60g of Parmesan
150ml of olive oil, (I mixed half extra virgin, half normal)
1 dash of lemon juice
salt
black pepper
Blitz in a food processor
