In the News

Ohne, a subscription service for organic tampons, has announced that they will deliver free tampons to any NHS staff member who needs it.

they are also offering 50% off for ‘anyone else who’s struggling to access period products’.

I have never heard of them, but I’m sure they will be useful for some

Sorry but this free this and free that for NHS staff is getting stupid. I just saw free wedding dresses. You know how much money those who are above a band 4 make? Most of the nurses, social workers, occy therapists I worked with over the years had cleaners. they didn't clean their houses, they paid people to do it. Now they get everything for free. I'm sure there are lots of self employed people out there that could do with free tampons as their businesses are screwed. I know this will be unpopular but I'm not a flag waving god bless the NHS type. They never have helped me at all with my many medical conditions, only helped my dad because I threatened them with the media and I was bullied multiple times, sexually harassed etc when staff and they didn't care at all. I know too much about the NHS and all this clapping for them etc. Enough already.

Having worked for them previously, I don’t disagree. There were some wonderful people I was fortunate enough to meet, but the majority were not as wonderful. There’s more than one reason why there is a funding deficit in the organisation

I have always thought that the NHS were wonderful. When I had my tough pregnancy the midwives and nurses were great and the care that my son got from the second he was born, that is still ongoing has been amazing.

Yes those above a band 4 have a good wage, but this isn't to do with their earnings. This is to do with the unprecedented situation we are in and showing our NHS we support them. I agree clapping for them doesn't change anything but it shows them that we appreciate their efforts. Yes some NHD trusts are awful and some staff just don't care. I've had my fair share of awful experiences with NHS workers and made sure they knew that it wasn't acceptable and I always complained about it to their manager and even more senior members. Despite these experiences, the NHS does a wonderful job under evermore increasing pressure. I was never a flag waving god bless the NHS person either but after everything they have done for my son and are currently doing for many other peoples loved ones at a risk to themselves, I do think they deserve some credit and recognition, as do the rest of the key workers during this time.

Yes this would benefit a lot of self employed people and people who have lost jobs due to this pandemic, but the company cant afford to give free items to everyone, which is why they are doing a 50% discount.

I think we need to appreciate all the key workers out there that are putting themselves at risk to keep the country going.

The NHS has many faults, I've never denied this fact, but at the moment they are stepping up and for that the staff, in all its forms, from the lowest paid to the highest paid deserve recognition and respect. In my opinion anyway, I respect that others might disagree for a number of reasons and that is understandable.

A NHS staff nurse grade 5 is in the same wage bracket as a Civil Servant EO grade. Difference? The nurse is working their butt off with long shifts on the front line of this disease trying to save lives, struggles to get to supermarkets NHS hour and has no family life. The Civil Servant is now probably at home, (90% of those I know cannot work from home due to the nature of the work). I know who I'd rather give the freebies to.

I think it should be free for everyone...not like period is something women asks for...and some of these products are expensive..Pandemic made the cheaper things go fast...

I agree. The fact that such products are taxed is ridiculous - definitely imposed by someone who was not fond of women

Personally think tampons should be free to all women all the time regardless of where or what they work for.

I think so too, although some may argue that we don’t have to use tampons. I guess if they want to see blood...

It's interesting that all these free posts are aimed towards NHS workers and not fire bridge staff or others who are working their butts off! My partner met a poor lady who lost her job and was working in the supermarket just to earn money yet she doesn't get anything for free. Without food in supermarkets we'd all be screwed the same!

I agree. There’s a lot of emphasis just on the nhs, but there’s a whole load of others that have been vital in keeping everything going, and they ought to be acknowledged too. Thankfully, they will be getting a bonus (and so they should based on the reported profit levels for last month)

I think that tampons should be hugely reduced or all charged the same low profit.
