'Freebies' with Extortionate P&p Charges
Other
Do many people on here bother with 'freebies' with p&p prices which seem too high? For example, the other day I saw this post about a 'free' pair of sunglasses but you have to pay a whopping £7.99 for the postage. This appears to be coming more and more common with freebies. I guess it's a way for the companies to avoid actually giving products out for free.
I definitely don't that's for sure .
I haven't seen any decent ones posted on here for a long time (the so post ones are generally good and guarenteed to arrive)
I'm just seeing a lot of overpriced p&p charges and USA based ones lately..
Seems like it's always the same couple of people that post these kind of 'freebies' too.
Looks like the points system has well and truly took over and people are posting the first thing they find to build their points up..
The freebie section has been relatively quiet lately in terms of decent freebies, which are actually completely free. But I keep checking every single day nevertheless.
RegularComper90 you can probably say the same about the deal section too lol.
Every day for the past month or so, all I have seen is (what I presume to be) the whole of the 'pretty little thing' website . And yeah, we always check back lol.
I somehow feel it might not always be "points greed" that causes people to share freebies. Only yesterday evening I and another member were saying that a "freebie" should probably have been posted as a "voucher" - the poster would if that had been done got 50 points; five times more than the 10 points for sharing a freebie.
Comments on this might explain better: https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/freebies/free-1-off-voucher-princes
davidstockport The other member that you're talking about is pretty guilty of these kinds of things himself too! Lol.
He jumped on a post that had an extortionate p&p charge pretty much stating that it wasn't much of a 'freebie' although, a couple of hours earlier. He himself had also put on a 'freebie' with extortionate p&p charges.
He also posted a week or so ago, a 'freebie' teddy bear that was supplied by a small charity of mothers that had lost children to miscarriage etc.
A charity that was donation run by grieving family's..
Promoting something as sentimental and sensitive as that on a site like this (when most people apply for 'freebies' just because they can) is pretty sick in my opinion.
And all for the sake of 10? Points.
LittleLisaMarie I am not sure about the teddy bear one. But as for jumping on posts with extortionate p&p prices whilst posting those sorts of freebies himself, I know EXACTLY which member you are talking about. He tends to post those 'freebies' quite often. x
RegularComper90 definitely sounds like the same one hun. Fair do's to the admin/mods though!
That teddy bear post was took down within 15 mins or so..
I was going absolutely mental on the post. It's definitely not something that should be posted on a website like this. x
I don't apply for any freebies that require p&p because to me that is not a freebie.
People have been told before that these types of "freebies" should be posted under deals.
RegularComper90 absolutely. Plus it isn't until you click on the 'freebie' that you find out it isn't a proper freebie!
I usually only get freebies that are free will make odd exception if p&p cheap n i really want it
I don't mind paying a small amount of p&p if the freebie is something worthwhile. Something like 99p. But not much more than that.
I really enjoy paying for a Feelunique each month - the samples are free but you pay postage but I wouldn't put it up here as a freebie. I agree with LittleLisaMarie that the only ones that usually come are sopost or send me a sample but even they 'go astray' in their telltale pretty foil packets.
angemski oh yeah, the send me a sample ones are pretty decent too.. how could I forget those lol.
I've mentioned this before but one of the worst I've seen was a 5ml FREE sample of a cream with a £3.68 postage charge, the same thing could be bought on Amazon THREE for £2.95 with FREE P&P. The FREE offer had 49 likes - does anybody check details or even look what the FREE samples actually are?
I think some people tend to get overexcited whenever they see the word 'Freebie' so they go straight to that 'Like' button and then order it. And as we all know, people follow like sheep.
I haven't ordered a freebie that had a postage, for me it's not a freebie anymore. Maybe the freebie section should be divided into real freebie and postage freebie
Its not a freebie if you have to pay postage. Im sure they should be posted as deals rather than free.
Our hope is that one day in the future, we'll be able to create a sort of filter on the website where you can hide freebies with a delivery charge
Tom that sounds great. I think a filter a great idea, however, there's a bigger problem that also needs tackling...
Some freebies with low postage are actually worth it. But many "freebies" are actually really bad deals - when it's a cheap product you can buy on Aliexpress for half the cost of the "postage" for example - these are the kind of freebies that don't even belong on the site and I feel we as users (and you as admin) should discourage.
And actually, a bit of feedback - why don't you just scrap the way you're doing freebies altogether? Treat them as a deal. Give the same points no matter what kind of deal is being shared (ok, maybe not competitions, but freebies certainly) - a true freebie is easily as worthy of the and points as a deal. You should actually have freebies and deals as the same thing, exactly the same process of adding them. The only difference is, they can enter £0 or free as the price, but only for true freebies (no postage). To get around people playing the system, ask everyone, what the postage is (I know you do for freebies more, but not deals) and then add both the product cost and shipping cost to show as the main price. The amount of times I've seen a deal that's advertised as £1 but then has a £5 postage cost hidden... It's really annoying. That's why, whenever I see a postage cost for something I'm sharing, the price I advertise is the total cost including postage (see my drum kit deal today) because I know if I advertise it at the lower price, it'll just annoy and mislead people - unfortunately I don't think most people think like that (or care from the deal sharing end), because they want their deals to appear better than they are for more likes.
And on a related note, I think we should all feel free to comment when someone posts a bad deal (nicely of course) - we should try and lead by example and try and improve other people's deals with constructive feedback, so we can continue to enjoy the site with better quality deals, and not have it full of overpriced junk or "fake" deals.
How about trying to implement a limit on the freebie p&p charge? For example.. The p&p of a freebie can't exceed £1 or so, if it's anything over £1 (or whatever the amount is you agree on) then you can prompt them to post it as a deal instead?
Tom not sure if it's possible but I'm sure Kelsey will be able to work his magic somehow.
A lot of freebies are meant as perks for existing customers. For example, Sainsbury's Online often have 'freebies', but they're only free if you were already planning to purchase other items from them.
I was under the impression that if any spend other than P&P was required then it couldn't be posted as a Freebie - apparently this has been changed one Freebie I reported that requires a minimum £15 spend before any possibility of cashback... is now considered to be a Freebie. Also as the maxinum possible cashback is £15 unless the item/s comes to EXACTLY £15 even IF cashback was later given then a SPEND (in excess of cashback) would still have been necessary. Even the description blurb says the spend must be £15+ although there's no mention the offer is on a "first come" basis. So no actual certainty of getting any money back.https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/freebies/15-cashback-bq-top-cashback
A customer spending £15 plus wouldn't know at time of purchase that their purchase might be too late for cashback and, as the terms and conditions make things quite clear, they'd have no grounds for complaint if they didn't later get cashback.
IMO there should be no place for deals such as this under Freebies.
