Frustration with Chat
Other
Note - This Chat post is over 1 year old.
Although I admit I cannot think of any solutions I am finding chat more and more frustrating.
Although notifications tell us if someone has replied to our comment or added to our topics it is still very hit and miss.
I often accidentally come across comments where I have been mentioned but not been notified because @ has not been prefixed to my username. How many of these have I missed?
I also find people often do not hit the reply button and therefore only the op gets a notification, not the person they are replying to.
I also miss a lot of comments by people who I enjoy following but can't tell if they have commented.
Today took the biscuit though. Someone copied and pasted a comment I made and posted it under their own username. I could not believe my eyes and only found it by chance. I am incensed and wonder if this person makes a habit of it, getting points for reposting other's comments!?
Lynibis Oooooo, that's not nice or right. I'd name and shame, as you say how many other times have they done it.
I can't be bothered reporting this but all should keep an eye out. During lockdown I have used chat a huge amount but from now on I am going to boycott those topics where the OP never answers anyone's comments. It isn't always possible to answer all the comments but one or two would be nice.
Thank you for your Chat post and feedback. Please contact us using our contact form if you feel another member is impersonating you, copying and pasting your comments to use as their own, and we can review the situation.
It's always good to hear ideas on how Chat, notifications and other features of the site may be improved.
Lynibis Something stranger there Lyn - you appear to be replying to @angemski but there's no trace of any comment from her. Clicking on her name link too see profile (to see if I had accidentally muted her) resulted in "page not found".
davidstockport she changed username a while back but sometimes when you reply it reverts back to former name. They are one and the same person.
Also frustrated that people keep starting topics they never return to! Don't they realise they can only do 2 topics per day (40 points) but can earn 100 more if they make 5 comments!
I have also found this happening a lot. I made a thread with several replies and had no notifications that anyone was adding to the topic at all!
You have misunderstood my comment but if you are not receiving notifications maybe send a contact us query. I was beginning to think you never returned to your topics until you answered my Bohemian Rhapsody lol.
Wow, and the one that really annoys me happens very often, like just now. Get a notification saying 'someone has liked your comment'' and when you click to remind yourself which one the whole blinking topic has gone with a message saying sorry the page can't be found and is never seen again so you have no idea what it was about or whose comment or topic was deleted....very frustrating.
Definitely agree with this - it's very frustrating. Would be better if the topic could just be hidden from people that hadn't previously commented.
The original post by Kelsey has been closed to comments for a while (Moderators may care to note ?) So after a time of the new "points for chat " system perhaps I can comment on here ?
To me it is absolutely Bonkers to be rewarded for "Chat " whether creating one or adding to a topic . As I warned on the original post (now closed for comments ) it would just lead to certain members just posting random topics (2 per day ) to gain points .
We all like chatting , asking questions , asking for advice etc on "Chat" or just generally having a chat .
We do not need rewarding with points surely ?
Sadly the "Chat" pages have been swamped by certain members interested solely in "earning " points . 2 a day each and every day gives a bit of a clue ?
By all means lets chat - but what reason is there for being rewarded ? Beats me !
I'm sure even the serial 2 a day "Chat posters " could not object to points for chat being removed ? I think it would lead to more relevant topics and genuine questions .
I am sure I am not the only member who rarely indulges in "Chat" since the change . It appears to me that most members no longer participate as they recognise 60%-70% of Chat subjects are posted by the same members ?
Lets get rid of the "points for chat" and reopen up Chat to those who have genuine topics to chat about ?
Perhaps it was a recruitment drive to gain more members ? It has obviously had the opposite effect , Please rethink Latest Deals it has certainly put me off the site in general .
Golfforall I thoroughly agree, points for chat does seem unnecessary and IMO results in too many topics that are only of interest to the poster and often just one other member...feeding each others topics for the 40 points.
I also notice you seem to have an "admirer" (sarcasm) who doesn't seem to know that amorous advances are not allowed. I've seen you tagged on many topics that you have taken no part in. I had the same problem (not same member) but after I reported it it stopped.
I can't name the person but he's obviously a few butties short of a picnic, if he actually thinks my surname is Stockport - this might explain to others why there has been at least one comment just saying "mr s". (Mister S).
Even Lynibis didn't know who he was referring to on one reply to her.
Absolutely agree Golfforall. Tom and his team members should read your your post thorughly. But this topic will probably be removed too as we are objecting to their. 'LD TEAM'
I've never noticed any criticism of the LD team resulting in the removal of a topic. I did however, in the past few weeks, see one totally vitriolic attack on a moderator that on any other forum would have resulted in the removal of the perpetrator. LD appear to be too fair on occasions.
davidstockport Agree to disagree. As I was not in general talking about topics. I should have made that more clear. I apologise. But deal sharing is another matter.
I don't see any notifications unless I actually open this app and look for them.. I'm with you on this, very frustrating xx
That's terrible, although sometimes I put a comment without reading the thread and find that someone has made exactly the same point earlier.
But just to be clear it wasn't me
For Lynibis and Tom (FOUNDER)
I have found the policing of this is site dreadful by the official administrators and then, you get members reporting your post because they do no like the content. I have never had one restored after appealing. That says it all really.
I am not sure why this was resurrected after a whole year and I wasn't going to comment. But just to say: I don't believe the change to chat has been for the good. People are now trying even harder to get their two in a day. And, proving what a (mostly) nice bunch we are members are commenting in order for the OP to get their 40 points a day.
However I no longer worry about how LD is run, it is not my business and they can obviously afford to double the points we get on chat so happy days!
Hi everyone
I'm going to lock this topic as a lot has changed since it was originally posted - improvements and bug fixes have been made to notifications, as well as the introduction of push notifications for app users. It was bumped up for an unrelated issue so I think is perhaps a bit misleading at the moment.
Golfforall - I appreciate the feedback as ever. The point changes to chat we made aren't necessarily permanent and we may make further changes in the future I definitely get the intent of bumping this topic if the original was locked (and the fact you've had previous new topics with feedback reported as duplicates). I'd imagine it's quite frustrating that I'm closing this too - sorry! I'll review the other topic to see if we can open it up again otherwise if there's more feedback you want to leave at a later date and there isn't a relevant topic for it at the time please feel free to contact us directly.
davey184 - I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad experience with moderation on LD. We always try and be as fair and consistent as possible with applying our guidelines but do acknowledge that we sometimes get it wrong. I've had a quick look back through your last 5 pages or so of deals and couldn't see anything immediately, obviously "wrong". That's not to say mistakes haven't happened. You've mentioned that you've never successfully appealed a moderation decision - have you done this via the contact form? If so, did you get a response that justified the decision (even if perhaps you didn't personally agree with it?) or no response at all? I'm very happy to look into this for you to see if any mistakes were made or there are any improvements we can make to the process. If you'd like me to please drop us a message via the contact form and ask for it to be forwarded to me (Kelsey)
wibblewobble - It sounds like perhaps you don't have push notifications enabled in the app? You should be able to enable and customise push notifications by going to the "Menu" then "Settings" then "Notifications" any issues please drop us a message via the contact form!
