Fuming

Ask a Question

Found out today a friend of a friend went to Sainsburys, made a fool of themselves at the checkout by not following rules. Then once her £212 of shopping was scanned she said she didn’t want it and left the store. I’m fuming for this persons awful behaviour but also what happens to all that food now. Can it be returned to shelves or does it get binned?

What do you think of this?

Ive worked in retail and that sort of stuff really did get on my nerves. I dont understand what wierd kick people get out of wasting their time putting their stuff into a trolly and wasting someone else's time scanning it all to then turn around and say they dont want it. Not like other people couldve been getting served or member of staff couldve come off till if not needed and done another job.

Sainsbury should give her an ASBO and tell her not to come back. Some stuff would normally have been put back on shelf but not sure about how things stand at the minute.

Wouldnt go that far as to give an ASBO but couldve thought of staff and other customers. A lot of stores near me are strugglying as lots of staff are refusing to work due to covid-19 . Last thing staff need ATM is to be putting over £200 worth of stock back, when there are other customers that need serving.

Surely there must have been a reason did your friend just forget their money or cards maybe. Can't see why anyone would deliberately do such a thing especially now as you even have to queue to get into the stores. Pretty sure they will just return it to the shelves, but annoying and time wasting for the staff.

She is a friend of a friend. She had money, the issue started because she was ‘told off’ for not waiting and putting her stuff on the belt before the customer in front had left. She was also asked why she had so much shopping. My answer to that is that she eats a lot!

As soon as she started playing up, security should have kicked her out and she should have been BANNED.

I wouldn't feel too annoyed because who got the last laugh? The stupid woman will have wasted a lot of her own time having to go shopping again and will feel very stupid setting foot in there again, if they allow it. The food wastage is obviously bad but she's the biggest loser in this scenario just for a moment of stubbornness.

Dennab I'd still ban her outright from coming back into the store.

I always try not to judge people in these scenarios too harshly. A. We weren't there, so only have someone elses version. B. We dont know what's going on in that ladies life to have made her react OTT like that. I'm in no way saying her behaviour is correct but she could be really struggling right now & whatever happened/was said was a final straw for her. I'd hope she'll at least go & apologise in the near future. Having said all that she could just be a D#@k!

She is not struggling in the sense to which this would have pushed her over the edge. Her family actually thought it was funny.

I think they would have put the food aside for a put and then put it back, don't know how/if this works for chilled/frozen goods but I read that food banks have been 'quarantining' donations for two days before redistributing them.

I hate it when people act like 2 year olds when they are old enough to know better. I don't care what anyone has going on in their lives there is never any excuse to act badly and cause upset to others just because you feel down. If you are going through something really dreadful then don't go out shopping!

Why do people have to act like prats. There is nothing wrong with standing up for yourself or speaking your mind but there are ways of doing it.

It’s just something that happens in supermarkets quite regularly, although not always at a large scale. Today as I went through self checkout, I saw that the staff member who was manning the tills had amassed a basket full of items and was adding to his pile - apparently the person on the first till thought the doughnuts were on offer but when he scanned them they weren’t, so he didn’t want them and the staff member had to remove all 4 packs. The nature of the industry unfortunately creates waste

Under normal circumstances I know this happens but at this present time we must appreciate shop staff are putting their lives at risk by serving us. Unfortunately I lost a very dear friend to this awful virus who worked on the checkouts.

eyeballkerry sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately not a lot of people are able to think of others during this time. Also, you never know why someone acts up in such a way - perhaps the person flipped under their own personal circumstances? It’s best we don’t try to judge people too harshly in such times, and definitely no point forcing staff to take drastic action against people if it’s a one-off

I think in Pandemic there should be zero tolerance on this....People should get a fine to do this.

It is really hard to work on customer service and deal with some of these customers...can not imagine how someone can not calculate their shopping....and lots of the times people do like remove this and this and this and this...and like u double the transaction...it takes forever. In the meantime the company check it in the system how many customers u served in your shift.

Some people simply have no manners and have been brought up terribly. This common attitude of I am right you are wrong is just sad.
