Furlough Scheme Extended At 80% Until End Of March 2021 + Help For Self Employed

Just seen this breaking news. Hopefully will help a lot of people who have been worrying about the drop in wages from 80% to 66% if you are furloughed and it will be 80% off a person's wage up to £2,500 per month the same as the existing scheme. You will no longer have to work a minimum of a third of the time to get the money either
Plus, the self-employment income support scheme which is the third grant covering the months November to January will now be calculated at 80% of average trading profits, up to a maximum of £7,500.
Rishi Sunak has just announced it to the House Of Commons.
We were getting a bit worried as personally my other half works in aerospace and they are finishing for Christmas on 4th December and being put on furlough so a little bit more money now anyway, plus, they have made 25% ff the employees redundant at his workplace and changed the shifts from 4 on 4 off to 3 shift pattern so we are loosing a lot that way too but hopefully this is a bit of comfort to those that need it.

Lockdown extended you watch in December wales out on Monday numbers are still high 4 weeks gathering in pubs. Then all in until March.
It’s probably because we will be back in some sort lockdown again after he opens it over Christmas.

TheChimp I'm in the same boat. Disgraceful. I could understand if I suddenly became self employed mid march 2020 but may 2019 and I'm not eligible.

you may be able to ask them to take you on, on a furloughed basis as this is the reason the scheme has been extended and HMRC allowed it back in March for those who were made redundant in February.
Yes you can ask them to take you back on as long as you were working for them on the 23rd September.
lynsay Thank you but no, all in all they let 19 of us go as we had all been on furlough since March and even though the company had kept open on skeleton staff they still can’t foresee what’s around the corner, but as one door shuts and all that I’m feeling quite positive
KayumSattar Thanks but the future is never clear in the printing business and with the Blue Chip companies we print for not being able to put promotions on they simply don’t need the advertising so obviously they don’t need the staff
tishtash231 Thank you but unfortunately after speaking with my direct manager last week they are all worried for their own jobs as in the print industry Jan to March are the quietest months of our year so they will be struggling to keep the staff they have left
NicStainthorpe Thanks but qualifying isn’t enough unfortunately, I could ask for my job back but the company has the right to refuse me and with the print industry being so reliant on shops being open to advertise or running big promotions the future looks bleak sadly
Does anyone know if this scheme is based still on the contracted hours you were on in February?
Not mentioned yet. Still waiting on the official guidance on HMRC's site. My guess is that those who were employed last month may now qualify for this scheme where they may not have for the March scheme.
Apparently you can ask to be put back on the books if you were employed on the 30th October! I’ve asked my employers
If its been extended till march will that mean lockdown will also be till march and not December like they say .
I guess it's good and bad news at the same time. I know people who has basically done nothing for a year but scared of job loss or uncertainty of future/sector... At the same others who need to still work full time to make enough to survive as they can't get government help.
we had a change of staff during non lockdown.....so wondering if these new staff can now apply for furlough? as cut off for last lot was June 10th

I think is brilliant for people that cant go to work but I am a bit confused with this lockdown who they actually are?
I thought my work would be closed but they are staying open this time and a lot more that
were closed before I work in textiles should they be closed because there is a lot of people scared of
the virus but can not afford to stay at home?
No relief to me. I'm newly self employed, may 2019, therefore I'm not able to avail of the self employed income support scheme.
i have diabetes type 2 and other health issues should i continue to go work ,i work in a school but am so scared of getting ill due to my ongoing health issues
iainsmith628 Its been proven that school children only spread the virus to a minute degree . Whereas young adults are the superspreaders . The figures are widely available if you care to read them .
Closing schools would have little effect on the spread of the virus and just think of the effect on a generation of under educated children (remember they've had 6 months off already) .
Im self employed,have been for 27 years, not earning a lot but happy with my work. I qualify but have to wait 3 months and get any money in arrears. Last payment was August,for previous 12 weeks. So now we can get November to January? What happened to September and October? Did those two months fall off the callender? So now we will have to wait till end of January for 3 months at 80 percent? To cover 5 months?? Shocking
yes , I was watching Martin Lewis last night and he said that while they are not guaranteed hours due to there contract they will go buy what there wages by what they were 12 months ago .
I think it is a huge weight off peoples minds BUT month after month he was saying NO its not being extended . On average he was getting up every 2 weeks with new announcements and then literally on the eve of it going and his boss being railroaded into another lockdown he goes back to his original plan . Businesses need clarity and to feel in control of there lives and in the last few months companies have been giving out redundancies like confetti .and I will put money on it that if those companies knew that furlough was being extended then I genuinely think some of those jobs would still exist and people would still be able to go back to there jobs when this nightmare ends.
My daughter is self employed us she entitled to furlough please reply asap also my granddaughter is a spa receptionist and didn't get furloughed before but was meant to go back to work on Wednesday as a spa receptionist but can't now is she entitled to furlough please reply asap
Hi tilly1947 we are just a deals site sharing the news, they will need to investigate further with their employer for your grand daughter and with the tax office for your daughter. If she has been self employed for a while she can claim the self employment grant based on her profits but will need to sort it out herself. Thanks
