Furlouhed Backlash
Ask a Question
Why are people giving the furloughed employees backlash as the government decided to furlough employees off staff of businesses.
Maybe its because given a bit of sun they load up the car and head for the beach/beauty spot etc (whether allowed or not ) . Like having 40 consecutive paid Bank Holidays .
A generalisation of course - but you can see why NHS workers and indeed other key workers look at the pictures on TV after a 12 hour shift and rightly feel that a good proportion of the population are laughing in their faces !
The Furlough scheme has saved my family from being in a terrible situation and probably risking things to make money.
Probably coz the rest of us are still working and slightly jealous of the unlimited days off they are having while being paid at least 80%. I'm still working and feel drained and tired after day of work while my wife is chilling and doing many things I want to do but cannot.
Many are taking it as a paid holiday. And I say this to family members too who are doing just that. Behaving like a dole person. .
I have felt quite keenly how unfair it is that most are being paid to sit around while others still work. Staying home is a small price to pay for free money but I can't see what else the government could have done. I am over retirement age but still worked and am presently just getting by as I was not eligible for furlough.
Ann1984 I think that you're very naive.
There are a lot of wasters out there, but a lot of people are on the dole out of circumstance.
I've been there and I really don't like the attitude that your taking.
Are you working by the way?
What benefits are you claiming off the government?
Because if you are claiming anything, you can class yourself as a bum as you're not supporting yourself/family.
Ann1984 All I am saying is don't call all people on the dole 'bums'.
And there's going to be a lot more claiming benefits in the next year or so because their employer's businesses are going to go belly up.
It won't be their fault that they have to claim Universal Credit or the likes, and I don't think that they will be happy being called 'bums'.
TheChimp not nice thing to say especially for people who’ll need universal credit
Not everyone on the dole is on it because they are lazy and don't want to work. There are any people on it due to circumstances beyond their control, especially at the moment. I had to claim dole for roughly 6 weeks after I left uni. I was finding it hard to get a job but still had bills to pay. I held off apply for it as long as possible, because of the negative connotations associated with it. I was on for the shortest amount of time possible, as soon as I got a job, even though it was a zero hours contract and I didn't know how many hours I would get, I stopped claiming. I certainly didn't consider myself a bum, I had been doing everything I could to find a job and applying for everything that I could possibly do, I wasn't fussy what the job was, as long as it paid my bills. I'm a stay at home mum at the moment and all I claim for is child benefit for my son and every penny of it goes on him and I am a very busy mummy! You are making a stereotype that everyone claiming benefits is work shy and lazy. For some people benefits are a life saver and we often forget that.
mayabhikha How come it's rubbish? What would you rather have 80% of your pay or a maximum £2500/month or no job and get JSA?
mayabhikha Yep, a lot depends on if you enjoy the job, but a job is a job and better than no job.
Lots of people who are furloughed would much rather be in work earning their money, luckily I haven't been furloughed but a number of people where I work have, and they actually want to come back to work and get back into a normal routine , it's the minority treating it as a paid holiday.
A friend of mine who presents on radio would much prefer to be in work because for a lot of people including me, it's their life and the money is a bonus. As far as I know, they have not been to the beach with 1000 other people. Personally, I'm working from home doing one job that was office based and actually works well at home along with a freelance job that was already home based. I am losing significant sums of money from a third job I can't do at home though. Swings and roundabouts eh? One of my home working jobs is on a PAYE income so I could in theory be furloughed with that. Even if I was, I have plenty to get on with and even if I didn't, the respect for people who do have to go out and work (in hospitals especially) is enough to keep me firmly on my arse.
...or maybe I'm just lazy.
I have been working first few weeks of lockdown and really didn’t mind to be furloughed as taking train for unnecessary work and risking my family health was something I didn’t want , luckily got furloughed after three weeks , and at least my partner can focus working from home and I take care of our toddler and cooking . I am actually person who likes working but this situation now I am glad and hoping they don’t ask me to come to work any time soon as really don’t want to send my daughter to nursery.I have never claimed any benefits in my life and always was wondering how it is to be paid by sitting in your arse hahahahaha, I k ow know and it’s not easy job hahahaha, going to the office it’s like relaxing time .But love spending more time with my daughter and baking together,as she had been in Childminder’s and nursery since she was 1, Monday to Friday 9 hours a day as we have no family to help us out in UK and we both work full time x
I would rather be furloughed and get 80% of my salary for doing nothing than be unemployed and getting nothing for doing nothing
