Game of Thrones Prequel

Other

I am a massive Game of Thrones fan, loved the series. Pleased that they are planning to make a prequel Dunk and the Egg.

I couldn't get past the terrible spelling and grammar. Where do The Mail get their journalists? Primary school?

Not sure I could watch this as it wouldn't really be a prequel with none of the characters we know and love, just another series set in a time before GOT.

I will definitely give it a go as it's by the same writer plus I really enjoyed GOT.

beccatavender yep, I guess I probably would end up watching it, but would probably see it as something totally different to GOT , but as you say, by same writer. Have you read the books? Just hope he has another good lot of storytelling in him as he is now getting on a bit!

I found Wilbur Smith's work less readable as he got older.

I started the books but didn't get very far, due to things happening in my personal life I wasn't able to concentrate enough to keep the storylines straight. I may give them another go.

I know what you mean, about authors, I love Tom Sharpe's earlier work but was disappointed in his more recent books Lynibis

Actually I had a look and thought the spelling and grammar was above average, furthermore I found that many common errors (which have become almost the norm) weren't made.

So many incorrectly say "companies", when they mean "company's" and "it's" (as the possesive of it) when it should be "its". (it's means "it is"). But those common mistakes weren't made in it.

I didn't particularly like "off of" but that is an Americanism that seems to be sneaking into our language.

davidstockport that article has been practically rewritten since I read it 2 days ago. Two words were printed successively and there was a blatant spelling error. As I can't remember the passages I can't say what they were. However, I still don't understand why articles are not edited for English readership, i.e. Program(me) and ize instead of ise to end many words.

Lynibis I complained about the same issue to a reporter and suggested he sack his proof reader as the article was loaded with errors. He admitted that there are no longer people employed to do that job and that they rely on auto-correct......the literacy is shocking!

sunny101 I am glad it is not just me lol. As I have mentioned on here before I am a bit obsessive about grammar and spelling but I try not to point errors out to individuals, though it is very tempting. But is does make me cross when letters from companies; energy, shops, solicitors etc. are loaded with errors.

My mind instantly picks out anything that is wrong whilst out and about, like a menu that had Sirlion steak and a bank with a huge cardboard cut out with stationary instead of stationery on it.

People today say these things don't matter but that is personal opinion and wrong spelling, and more especially bad punctuation, can totally alter the meaning of the written word.

Newspapers are the worst offenders.

Hope you are keeping well and safe sunny, I am getting pretty bored but trying to keep busy. As David's calculator has said my jab is due mid February, I may volunteer to go back to work when I have had it.

Lynibis I have to agree that the article seems to have been altered but there's still some issues. I'm chilled about it, in general as there are many struggling with dyslexia, but when your work involves writing articles then you use all the tools available to make that piece readable.

Normally I wait until the end of a series and then binge watch. GOT is the only series we couldn't wait so watched it weekly 🙂

I didn't like the last episode and I thought the battle with the White Walkers should have been longer .But otherwise it was compulsive viewing🙂

I really enjoyed GOT but, like others have mentioned, found the last episode really disappointing. I felt cheated after faithfully watching, week after week. The good thing about a prequel is the stories will be fresh and it can be watched without wanting it to end a particular way.

beccatavender I didn't fancy Call the M but became hooked on it ...so did hubby .....and I usually ended up giggling and wiping away sad tears in the same episode. I recommended it to my *( yr old Dad thinking he'd enjoy seeing the 'old times' and he found it 'boring'

I still haven't got round to watching Game of Thrones. It might now be worth waiting until I've seen the prequels before starting the original series.

Game of Thrones was one of the best series I have ever seen, beside the ending. I'm just hoping the prequel is up to the same standard 🙂
