If You Have a Garage, Do You Actually Put Your Car in It?
Ask a Question
I do not personally have a garage but a covered in area we call a car port but not big enough to get a car in. Most of my neighbours in my road have a garage but only about two or three actually use it for a car.
We used to garage both cars but now only one car. It’s full of bikes and other essential bits I’ve been assured
Pjran My husband would love a double garage, it’s on his wish list when we move, or at least room for a double garage. I don’t think I would ever see him if we had one!
We have a small garage at this house so no. I don't think the car would fit even if it was empty but we built a car port to keep the weather off the car, after getting planning permission, as it is at the front of the property.
tumblespots We have used our covered in car port for many things over the years. Mainly my husbands motorbikes, then kids bikes now my daughters gym.
eyeballkerry Our car started off by staying outside so that out motorbike/sidecar could stay dry, it was sold a couple of years ago and the new car doesn't fit! As you say, a car port is so useful.
Jackscot We are looking to move soon and a double garage is on my husband’s wish list. He loves spending time in his work shop at the moment but wants something bigger.
We have a garage but we don't put either of our cars in it as I don't think they would fit or if they did fit then we wouldn't be able to get out of the car as wouldn't be able to open the doors. It has a few items in it like our sons bike and some gardening items.
Dos anyone actually use their garage for a car,t hey are usually quite tight to fit and car in and actually get out of the car . I think most people use them as extra storage space.
Mango4 Judging by the answers on here it seems many people do not use their garage for a car, mainly due to cars getting bigger.
Wish I could use the garage, it's full of kids stuff, bikes ect.. I ment to clear it out this summer but couldn't be bothered lol
martinlufc5637 Our car port becomes a bit of a dumping ground and every so often we have a clear out, funny thing is nothing in it is mine!
eyeballkerry I had to buy a shed for my stuff, nothing in the garage is mine, kids don't even use half of the stuff in there
I have a garage but my car wouldn’t fit inside as it’s narrow. The house was built mid eighties and these days cars are much larger. I store lots of things in my garage so my house isn’t cluttered.
Sugarbabe I am hearing this a lot that cars are now too big for the standard garage. It’s the same with parking spaces, they never change the size of them.
Jackscot Need a very big garage then. One of neighbours has so many cars they are using the drive of their next door neighbour as the bungalow is empty.
My garage used to have a car in it. Since the pandemic its been overspill for... everything. Could barely fit a skateboard in there now
If only, you can’t move in there so much stuff being stored ,put in there as so much has accumulated. Definitely need a huge clear out ..
LL81 Its amazing what we store in them and in our lofts. Most of stuff is never going to be used again. We have a clear out about every six months. Just had one recently and the car port is looking pretty clear at the moment.
eyeballkerry I had a lot of stuff in my loft at my old address and left it for the new owners. I bet some of the toys would be worth some cash today. The new owners have 3 kids so I know they would have been used.
Sugarbabe ..That's good of you to leave the toys you didn't want for the new owner's children.
I know many people with garages that use them as large sheds lol. The car sits on the driveway most of the time lol
We're looking at buying a house at some point, my husband is looking for one with a garage so he can make it his man cave
G0501 We are doing exactly the same but my husband is looking for a double garage and then hopefully purchase a classic car to do up.
If only, we live in an ex council house, NO garage NO driveway & a concrete slope that leads to pavement so when visitors park up they have to park carefully so when they open their car doors they don't scratch them!
