Do you think GCSEs and Alevels should take place this year?
I know we need to start going back to 'normal' but I really feel like they missed out on so much learning time and yet has to sit exams.
My niece is doing her GCSEs so I may be a little biased but the stress is clearly getting to her.
I may be wrong but I thought this year exams had already been cancelled and replaced with teacher assessments . With all the stop/start schooling in the past year or so not sure how it would have been possible to actually do exams that were fair to everyone , as different areas and schools were all at different points in the curriculum .
Aztec Yes! Thats what I thought but apparently she's still been having exams in the halls so I thought maybe I was wrong!
They been assessed by teachers same as last year. The kids should have sat exams easily could have been done,
I personally don't think anyone should be doing GCSE's or A Levels this year. I was assessed based on my classwork and what work I was sending in from home after the college shut and did remote learning.
chelseaturpin I agree because different schools were at different stages so it would make some more disadvantaged than others
My daughter "did" her GCSE last year and she did assessment and course work for AS level as they could not sit exams. I'm hoping by next year she will be able to sit her A levels as she is better at exams so it would suit her. I'd be very surprised if anyone sat a proper exam this year

My son finished year eleven this May. No exams and all the work they have done past two years (both class and online) will be teacher graded.
kimcress This is what all school should do in my opinion! But she has been continuing with tests

I know in lessons they had mini tests on what they have covered, but not the formal tests sat in the hall. I just asked my son what he did in school for tests and he said the above.
My question to ask your niece: is it proper exams with the official papers? (Which there possibly isn’t any exam papers)
Or is your tests classroom lesson based to get a good idea for the teachers grades?
Obviously the two exam styles are completely different. Lesson based tests are just what they have covered past two years for the teachers guidance to grade their work.
kimcress sorry for replying so late! I was waiting for her to respond! She said its a mix of past papers and some that the school made up.
I'd heard that 'GCSE's were just teacher graded this year so I dont know why her schools going on with them.

All schools are different, I know my sons school did it on coursework and had in class tests to help determine results.
The tests they have been doing have been optional ones to inform the teacher assessments. I hope they have still been doing some teaching too.
SilverSurfer they don’t catch up. That’s why the exams are cancelled and the results will be on coursework and class tests.
