Gift Sets, Yes or No?

Ask a Question

An article is floating about saying that people ( well the article says woman) do not want to receive gift sets

Do you agree or do you think people are being ungrateful?

I can understand why some people wouldn't like them as they aren't really personal and can be picked up last minute, but then again people might not have the much budget and this type of gift is within budget.

What do you think of this?

Personally I never end up using them and mostly always end up regifting them, so I never buy them. but they can be cheap to pick up so I can see why people do get them a lot, I guess it’s something that’s quick and easy

I think you would be better off making your own bundle for probably cheaper than what it is to buy a gift set!

Too much waste with them - the recipient might use some of the things but not want other things. I think as sam30 said most of them either get regifted or take up space (which they're a waste of) until they're thrown away. Buy SOCKS instead☺

They aren't very personal but what about people you are obliged to buy for but dont know that well ie. Teachers

Sorry, 'obliged to buy for but dont know that well ie. Teachers' No one is under any obligation to buy Teachers etc anything. This is another marketing con, like best/favourite whoever Christmas cards and one parent trying to out do another. My personal view.

I think it depends what is in them. My mum buys me ones from The Body shop that you can personalise, so she can pick the scent and the actual items to go in it so its always stuff that I will actually use.

They can be useful if you have to do a secret Santa and you don't know the person that well.

I like receiving gift sets, but then the people who buy them for me as presents know what kind of things I like/use and make good choices. I purchase them sometimes as stocking filler kind of presents, but I always check the contents to make sure the items are relevant for the person I'm shopping for.

I think gift sets offer good value for £. I give these to my nieces for Christmas, some great offers on in Boots, Body shop etc. I need to be careful as they have sensitive skin.

Personally I love Sanctuary so unless there is a really good deal on, I ask my husband to just get me the shower gel when they are on 3 for 2 as we haven't got a bath so end up giving a lot of the stuff away.

I buy them for people that ask for them or if I know someone will use everything in them.

I do find they have a lot of bath products included usually which is frustrating though as a lot of people don’t have a bath. I wish there were more shower vs bath options so you could get what works for each person rather than mixed packs.

I find that a lot of the time they are expensive for what they are and just involve more unnecessary packaging. For example those lynx sets - you can usually pick up a shower gel and a deodorant for less than the price of a gift set - you’re just paying for unnecessary and wasteful packaging

Gift sets always look beautifully boxed but nearly always contain at least product that I don’t use. Maybe I’m just too practical and would prefer something I actually use.

I personally think that gift sets are a cop-out and a gamble because ultimately you find that you really didn’t need those tiny bottles of shower gel and lotion. Or all three of those hand creams. Most of the time, they’re not even good quality and are full of harsh drying ingredients.

I don’t mind a gift set

I appreciate any gift but if I’m really honest, my pet peeve gift is vouchers 😣 I don’t personally give vouchers, I feel like it’s the gift worse than money lol (as it can only be used in a certain place and expires)

I'm not keen on receiving gift sets as it's often not items I like to use. I don't gift them either, unless I'm in a real pickle

I'm not against giving them IF I know the recipient will like them but I don't like getting them myself.

I don’t like receiving them. I rarely use the items as I stick to the products I buy myself that suit my skin. The only set I ever liked/ used was a nail varnish set.

You are paying for the packaging that ultimately gets binned as soon as you unpack it but they do make more impressive gifts so still buy them but I don't like to spend too much more than what they'd cost to buy separately
