Would You Give a Negative Remark Online

Ask a Question

I have seen on the news that Ariana Grande is stepping back out the lime light and cancelled her commitment to a show in London. Apparently she has been getting people online about how she looks. Would you comment or just scroll on by.

It amazes me how brave people can be behind a keyboard.

I certainly wouldn't comment negatively about how someone looks, but I have challenged someone who made a negative comment about a child (it was actually Prince Louis) online, telling them that they were being vile.

AlysonC I feel the same . I have reported comments in the past. I don’t think they realise how much hurt that they cause.

Saver1 I've often wondered if Ariana Grande would have lasting effects after what happened after her concert in Manchester, and whether she suffers from Survivors Guilt, so adding cruel comments on top must be dreadful.

Good for you for reporting a mean comment.

Normally just scroll by. I don't tend to comment much on social media; however people are commenting due to concern as she's got an eating disorder for sure and there is concern for her and also her promoting being anorexic. Some of the dresses, I think she's showing off how thin she is. Not cool. I think she needs help not being on tour. I haven't commented on anything regarding her apart from this thread. Image

I don’t see a reason to comment on her appearance, especially since she is a lot more attractive than i am. I don’t generally comment on celebrities online but i would if i felt their behaviour was poor. Other than that i don’t really care to comment.

I don’t partake in fandom culture - I don’t follow anyone, nor do I consider celebrities as people who live normal lives (they’re caricatures being manipulated by the PR system); that being said, they ought to understand that fame comes at a price, so being scrutinised & judged is part of being in the spotlight. Ariana is still young & has been in the public eye since childhood - hopefully she takes a break to deal with what she needs to be dealing with

Personally I try very hard not to be critical at all and never about someone's appearance. But it seems hidden human nature comes out at its worse on a keyboard with things you would never say if the person was standing in front of you.

I recently commented on facebook how unpleasant it was to constantly see foul language and felt that points could be made just as well without it. I then received a reply with someone calling me a f c if you get my drift.

No I would usually ignore it and move on. I have to say I've seen headings about her and just scrolled past it as some of them are disgusting. Everybody is unique and has their own style. Who are we to tell somebody what they can or can't do let alone comment on a celebrity. As long as they are happy and healthy it really doesn't matter. I believe we should all treat each other like we want to be (at least that's how I've been brought up and stick by).
