Do You Give the Postman Money to Say 'Thanks'?

Other

it's not something I have ever done, but I have noticed the older generations tend to give a little something to the postman for the Xmas season, and also to the milkmen if there are any still around

I've heard of this but haven't ever done it. Would love to know if others have as I see my postman almost daily 😆

Please do. They trudge through some terrible weather 6 days a week with very heavy bags, yes they are paid but we all need to know we are valued.

The posties we have here are very hit and miss - the good ones are very good, and the not so good ones are terrible. I appreciate that it’s not an easy job, and whenever they can, I’m sure they try their best

No but I'm thinking about giving mine a £50 note because mine is always on time and delivers perfectly everytime.

Cheers

that's a generous gesture. your postman is very lucky...or rather you must be the lucky one to have such a good postman 🙂

I do not generally tip because I don't earn as much as the people who expect it and my job isn't one where you get any perks or tips! I have a taxi driver friend to whom I moaned that I had a bad week earning wise and he grinned and said he had earned that in 1 day. And yet taxis are often among those we are expected to tip. Same with my hairdresser and I don't doubt most waiting staff, bin men, post people etc all earn more than me.

Charity is a different matter. Every year I count my blessings that I have food and a warm home at Christmas so I make sure 2 people have same by giving to Sally Army so they can feed and help the homeless.

I 100% agree! Teachers too, I honestly believe it's their job to teach. Why as a parent am I supposed to buy her/him a Xmas present, end of term present, end of year present. Bin men, postmen, etc it's their job nobody comes into my work and tips me. I don't expect to, it's my job 😂😂😂

Zowieeb i think tipping is no longer necessary, it is not right for pensioners to have to tip anyone. I must admit I feel quite resentful when expected to tip and my own pay sometimes works out to less than £5 per hour. ( It is a job that is hard to explain). I love to hear of rich people tipping loads of money to poorer folk though, makes my day.

I have one postman who became a friend now as he have the same dog breed as i have. One time he got mistake putting a letter in our house it was in a wrong number and for me it was a very important letter as it is from the gov't sector. So what i did , i went to that house just a min. Walk and put in the letter in the right door. As i saw the old postman he was very thankful. Just a little help for them. Make the world go round. Not only by giving money or what , being friendly and kind makes their day or xmas different.
