On GMB....Headmaster Bans Fake Tans
Other
As with so many things in life it is generational. Being old school I believe that school is a place of learning and not a fashion parade and hotbed of teen hormones. If I were the head of a school I would ban fake tans, make up, jewellery, mobile phones, long hair tied back and strict adherence to uniform regulations.
Parents can sometimes be more of a problem than the kids so I would send out a letter with all the above explained and invite any parents who do not agree to attend a meeting in the school hall to thrash it out.
Loads of talk about confidence etc on the debate but for goodness sake, if everyone sticks to the rules there will be no reason to feel 'outdone' by anyone else.
I know I will get no agreement with this subject but it was so different when I went to school!
I am a teacher and I would love to ban mobile phones in class! I have used them in class as an educational tool to show the pupils that they can use them in a positive way to influence learning, rather than what they use them for in class! I will allow classes to listen to music on their phones if they have earned it and are trustworthy. I agree with the uniform thing as well, the uniform is there to show they are part of the school community. I don't mind so much about the fake tan, make up, jewellery or the girls wearing their hair down. Mobile phones are a bigger pain for me to deal with.
I have learned at my age that we can never turn the clock back.....but I hate seeing young, beautiful girls with thick make up and spiders on their eyelids. I just wish we could teach them to be confident without all that rather than with it. There are some that will not step outside their house without a full face of make up on, almost like hiding behind a mask.
Oh well, I just remind myself that every generation thinks theirs is better than the one following!
Lynibis I agree with you on that one! I don't wear make up and on the special occasions when I do it is very subtle. I don't understand why these girls put on loads of make up and I agree the eyelashes look ridiculous.
My mum never wore make up and she is one of the most confident women I know and taught me how to be like that too! There are times I am glad I am the mother of a boy!
