Go Fund Me Donations Can Be Abused Sometimes
In the News
Here is an example where someone manipulated her story to pull on the heartstrings of the public to donate to her to prevent her being evicted
There are so many people requesting this nowadays it is definitely open to abuse in my opinion, and these people ruin it for the genuine cases
Its all over the place my friend put one up because her boyfriend was killed a car crash but he was being chased by police and won't stop and injured two people so it was his own fault she set u a go fund me page and wondered why people had a problem with it
Go fund me has been abused for a while with people asking for money to go on holiday or buy a house or even buy fortnite bucks. It will carry on to be abused so its down to the person donating to look into it if its real or fake and if they want to donate or not.
@silversufer people might think I'm heartless but I don't care 2 years ago I was walking into my town this was a 10min walk from my home when I seen a car speeding he lose control and went into a bus stop i watched a 8 year girl die that day turned out he was late for work and had his own kid in the car there were ok but he only got 8 years what a joke every year I put flowers at that stop
Leannexxx Im guessing this was in reply to the other chat about drink driving. I think anyone caught drink driving should get a lifetime ban. No excuse to anyone drink driving!
SilverSurfer sorry didn't see the drink driving chat people did do a go fund me page for the girls family and i donated to that I bet you would have heard about it its was in the papers and on the news
SilverSurfer Totally agree S, there is so much publicity about this in newspapers , tv and online with some heartbreaking stories that there can be no excuse for it
SilverSurfer Heres that story S, and the other claiming she had cancer https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jan/03/homeless-man-hailed-as-manchester-bombing-hero-admits-thefts
Leannexxx I think it was this incident L , such a beautiful little girl
telmel Within in 5 years he is out of jail and back behind a wheel. No wonder this countries justice system is screwed
SilverSurfer Dont get me started on that subject S, the judges live on another planet
telmel Yeah but its also the lawyers who manage to find loopholes and discrepancies to either reduce or remove sentences.
Thanks L and S, the only way as you have shown is too look into the circumstances of the reason for funding and then make up your own mind
There was a sickening case a few years ago i read about where a woman claimed she had cancer to get donations , it wasn,t go fund me this time though , and she didn't have anything wrong with her
If I donate, I need to know about the situation, if someone is getting evicted through there own stupid mistakes then my sympathy goes out the window
No matter what platform when someone tries to do good someone will always find a way to abuse it should it be benefits, foodbanks , raising money they all get abused
Mick82 remember that homeless man who supposed to have help people with the Manchester bomb when off he got all sorts handed to him money a new place to live and what happened turned out he was stealing from the dead victims
It's deffo abused someone I know set a Go Fund Me up for a funeral and turns out most of the money didn't go towards the funeral and got put in safe instead for a 'future funeral'. It was a right mess all over facebook.
I wonder what "Future funeral" is another term for lol. Though Funeral costs are a huge con and they should not be so expensive.
SilverSurfer they ended up getting thousands upon thousands and only ended up buying the basic of basic for this funeral. When it came alight on FB people started asking for their money back which never happened, last time I heard they ended up deleting FB, changing mobile numbers and moved 10 minutes drive away.
chelseaturpin What nice people lol. I bet they are the type to complain if someone caught up with them and hounded them until the refund money.
SilverSurfer yep deffo are the sort or people that would be quick to chase someone else up for money
SilverSurfer Somebody should have tracked them down and put where they moved on facebook , then they would have to live like gypsies , always on the move
I agree with Mick82, there are always going to be people abusing things like this, one way or another. There was a story a couple of years back that got a lot of attention, a homeless man gave money to a stranded woman to help her get home, and then she started a funding page to help him. But it was all a scam, and I think they're both facing criminal charges now.
I’m going to sound heartless so please keep reading before you judge. A local family did a crowd fund to get their son home after being in a ski accident. They had no insurance.
