Go Fund Me Donations Can Be Abused Sometimes

In the News

Here is an example where someone manipulated her story to pull on the heartstrings of the public to donate to her to prevent her being evicted

There are so many people requesting this nowadays it is definitely open to abuse in my opinion, and these people ruin it for the genuine cases

Its all over the place my friend put one up because her boyfriend was killed a car crash but he was being chased by police and won't stop and injured two people so it was his own fault she set u a go fund me page and wondered why people had a problem with it

Go fund me has been abused for a while with people asking for money to go on holiday or buy a house or even buy fortnite bucks. It will carry on to be abused so its down to the person donating to look into it if its real or fake and if they want to donate or not.

Thanks L and S, the only way as you have shown is too look into the circumstances of the reason for funding and then make up your own mind

There was a sickening case a few years ago i read about where a woman claimed she had cancer to get donations , it wasn,t go fund me this time though , and she didn't have anything wrong with her

It's deffo abused someone I know set a Go Fund Me up for a funeral and turns out most of the money didn't go towards the funeral and got put in safe instead for a 'future funeral'. It was a right mess all over facebook.

I wonder what "Future funeral" is another term for lol. Though Funeral costs are a huge con and they should not be so expensive.

SilverSurfer they ended up getting thousands upon thousands and only ended up buying the basic of basic for this funeral. When it came alight on FB people started asking for their money back which never happened, last time I heard they ended up deleting FB, changing mobile numbers and moved 10 minutes drive away.

I agree with Mick82, there are always going to be people abusing things like this, one way or another. There was a story a couple of years back that got a lot of attention, a homeless man gave money to a stranded woman to help her get home, and then she started a funding page to help him. But it was all a scam, and I think they're both facing criminal charges now.

Mick82 It seemed like such a heartwarming story, but apparently they planned the whole thing. From what I read, the homeless guy started to complain because the woman hadn't given him much of the money, then people started to dig a little deeper and the truth came out.

I’m going to sound heartless so please keep reading before you judge. A local family did a crowd fund to get their son home after being in a ski accident. They had no insurance.
