What Goes on a Scone First Jam or Cream? or Strawberry Clotted Cream?

In the News

https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/foodanddrink/ms-strawberry-clotted-cream-a4460976.html

M&S creates strawberry-flavoured clotted cream so you don’t have to decide which goes first - but some hard core scone fans are furious πŸ˜‚

I don’t care for jam, nor do I like scones, so it’s cream on its own all the way for me

I always go for the Cornish way, scone-jam-cream, you get more cream that way πŸ™‚ Strawberry clotted cream NO NO just not right.

Jam followed by cream, anything else is madness

Yep I am with the jam first brigade. How on earth can you spread jam on top of cream, it's not stable enough lol

I thought you supose to cut a scone in half and put cream on one half and jam on the other then join together. This way you can have it both ways πŸ˜† πŸ˜‰

Difficult to eat though. Why have one lot of cream and jam when you can have two lol.

Lol I think I recall doing that once, and it was not that easy to eat - it got very messy πŸ˜‚

I believe the proper way is cream then jam then more cream. Eat then repeat πŸ˜‰ πŸ“

I don't know what is the proper way, but I prefer jam and then cream, as it slides off more if you do it the other way round

I cut mine in half and then put the strawberry jam on both, topped with clotted cream and have 2 cakes to eat. 🀣

A more important question is whether it's pronounced scone (sc-on) or scone (sc-own) πŸ€”

Everyone knows it is Scone as in One! But I guess it is depends on where you were brought up due to regional dialects and pronunciation. Xx

It’s the latter for me. How does the queen say it? Probably the latter also - if only I could find a video clip of any of the royal members of the family saying it πŸ˜‚

I made scones yesterday because I had some clotted cream. We always put a large scoop of jam then a generous scoop of cream then sliced or halved strawberries.

TheChimp dawarwick Definitely scone as in gone. Scone as in bone (or Scoon) is a Palace and place in Scotland. Cream has to be real fresh Cornish clotted cream, if not available Rhoda's is next best and available in most supermarkets πŸ™‚

I'd much rather have the real components than an 'Angel Delight' filling although it's been given some good reviews. My preference is jam first because you can spread it to the edges of the scone, as thick as you like, then a huge dollop of cream. If you prefer it the other way then just slap the top and bottom together and turn the thing upside down!!!! 😜
