Going to A&E Alone?

I have been alone many times, I just tell the wife if they keep me in I'll see when I get home lol I was there 2 weeks ago, 13 hour wait

I've been alone a good few times unless it's for my kids but have to say even that was quick was in and out within 30 mins

Not really, more often than not it's not possible to drive yourself to the emergency dept, and it's soooooo boring sitting and waiting alone.

Depends really on how i was feeling and what my issue was. If i felt i might lose consciousness or couldn’t explain myself correctly, i would take someone with me.

I couldn't I've got Agoraphobia so don't go out alone. The NHS should take in to consideration that not everyone can go alone.

I've only ever gone to the A&E for our son but my husband has been to the A&E alone before and if I needed to go then I would go alone if possible.

I can’t think of a time that I would have gone alone, always a family member with me. Broken bones or sent from doctors for other reasons.

I’ve been alone numerous times (when I’ve actually needed to go) doesn’t bother me in the slightest tbh, just the wait times that’s the problem

It depends on what it’s for if it’s something simple like a broken bone then yes but if it’s more serious ie life or death I would have company

Yes, I've been alone before during the pandemic. It would depend on the issue of course, but if it was something where I didn't physically (or mentally?) need help, then I don't need anyone else to be with me.

The only time I went alone was when I had to at the very end of the pandemic. It was absolutely horrendous, you were suddenly discharged and nobody asked if you had a lift waiting or gave you a chance to call anybody. I would much rather have company especially if I needed help (which is normally the case if I have gone to A & E as I hate hospitals).

My last two visit to A&E I was on my own - my wife dropped me off and then picked me up (at 3am Monday morning!) didnt seem fair to keep her there for what was likely to be a long wait. These messages to come in on your own are to avoid too many none patients in the department. On my attendances there were some patients who seemed to have whole families with them. We are not talking small children either.

My daughter is coming along to my appointment with me on Monday at Sheffield Hand Centre,Northern General Hospital as I have an appointment for Xrays after putting my hand out to stop myself falling on the way to Walk In Centre on Boxing Day in the dark foggy weather,Injured my hand & now wearing a splint, bloodied my knee also..

Daughter studied Diagnostic Radiography at Uni so will know what questions to ask & I hate going to Hospital appointments on my own.

I tripped over in the dark foggy weather on the lane up to Sheffield's Walk In Centre on Boxing Day, put out my hand to stop me falling & now my right hand is in a splint,my left hand was bruised & I ended up with a bloody knee.

Well if you live in Yeovil the car parks are so expensive its much cheaper to get someone to drop you off and then drive off or just use a taxi. I've been to A&E a few times and always used a taxi or walked on my own as I'm only a 8 minute walk away from the hospital.

I would but it depends why you’re going, as if you’re concussed it would not be ideal to be alone. Also, I’ve got family members I need to translate for, so the advice obviously doesn’t consider those who aren’t fluent in English (mind you, after my last trip to the hospital, it appears that a lot of the staff aren’t fluent either)

When I have been in the past I do generally have someone with me. This is because I don’t drive, through health issues so always have someone with me.

I started going on my own during covid, and so now my husband just drops me off. My mum is terrified to go by herself, so never goes alone

Too many people ringing 999 because they have toothache ect so when you go to a&E they're completely full off time wasters

Yes it doesn't bother me

I always go on my own, as my partner has to stay at home looking after our children. I actually prefer it, as waiting times are very long, and this way I don't have to worry about my companion getting bored! But I have to say when it was something serious, like 4 years ago, I would have liked to have had someone with me. And I do understand that some people, like those with mental health problems or the elderly, just can't do it at all.
