How Many Are Going Back to Work after Furlough with a Pay Cut?
Other
It happens. My Son was told last week work starts again on 2nd, you have two choices 20% pay decrease and slightly less hours or redundancy! He's working but looking for another job. Apparently if you could live on 80% during Furlough you can live on it now.
My oh goes back Monday but flexible hours hopefully back full time by end July. If not and they cut furloughe then he's already got another job offer in place.
I hope not... my partner goes back Monday and we can barely afford to live on what he got before furlough.. but lots of people saying you should be grateful to still have a job at all
I’m going back at the start of August part time but my boss hasn’t advised how that will work out with my salary
The current situation illustrates very well how most people live from one pay to the next, spending every penny with no thought for the future. I do understand that many folk barely earn enough for basics but there are plenty who fritter money away on booze, cigarettes, designer clothes etc and have no idea of budgeting or saving for unexpected events or old age.
I am not an economist and may be speaking out of my proverbial, but what I can't understand is how the larger businesses are going out of business despite making loads in the good times. Surely any business worth the name should have an emergency fund, of at least 3 months of running costs, put aside instead of the bosses and shareholders taking too much from the profits.
The business my son works for made /make their money from Bitcon, unfortunately it is a wedding and conference venue. As for living, he's always been good with money, do I need it, maybe, I'll see in a week, every £ is a prisoner! The step-son on the other hand has worked throughout, gets paid weekly and never has any money, gets it, spends it then complains when his mates go on holiday and he can't go.
lilyflower yes, kids aren't taught money management and I think it should be incorporated into maths at school. Btw my rant wasn't directed specifically at your topic and I hope things improve for your son and those in similar situations. I think most smaller businesses will have to cut hours, money etc at first until business begins to pick up again. Unfortunately lots of people will not be able to wait for the upturn and may go under.
I have been back now just over 2 weeks, my salary is what it was pre furlough. On furlough I only received the 80%
