Certainly recommend the Shark brand of Hoovers .

We went from a Dyson to a Shark last year after many years using Dyson but much prefer the Shark Hoover

I loved my Dyson and thought there was nothing to compete with it until I got a Shark lift off. It is really thorough and picks up more fine debris than anything else I've ever used. Another plus point is that it's nowhere near as heavy as the Dyson. (Shark is recommended for pet hair too)

After lots of umming and arrrring I finally got a cordless gtech. The manouvreability is amazing and very light, especially as I was struggling to get previous one upstairs, good suck up too. However, my bestie got a Shark and highly recommend that, apparently a friend of hers thought she had bought new carpets after the first use!!!

I wonder if we will get more powerful vacuums again now we are leaving the EU. My old vacuum is 2900W and has incredible suction but most of the modern vacuums are sub 1500W and although I'm sure my vacuum isn't 2x the power of those it does seem to be more powerful overall. Pet hairs, dust filtration, carpet brush efficiency and overall air watts are all factors. I've heard good things about the Shark vacuums although must admit I absolutely hate the look of them. I've seen reviews where the cordless Dysons were far superior to Shark models but I don't think that is the case with corded vacuums which I think Dyson has stopped developing. Personally I would never buy a bagged cleaner like a Miele so they are not on the radar for me. It would have to be a cyclonic model with permanent filters like a Dyson, Shark, Vax etc.

I have to admit I'm often swayed by good deals so if I see a great offer on a vacuum and then research it and find it meets my criteria with decent reviews that would probably be my choice.

I have a cordless Hoover which I’ve found to be really good, with an attachment designed for picking up pet hair

I love my Shark. It's the best vacuum i've ever had. I have the duo one that folds over. It's great on the stairs too 😃

I have a Shark LiftAway and actually enjoy hoovering. My carpets are really old and they look new again, it's almost jet propelled so manoeuvring it is easy and I have arthritis everywhere. Would never go to any other make now

I have just changed from a Dyson, which lasted 3 years. I have bought a Shark Lift Away and boy can I notice the difference when hoovering the carpets, it lifts the pile and they look like new. I have also bought a cordless Vax for just a quick hoover and am pretty impressed with this as well.

I have a very very old Dyson which I keep upstairs and a newer ball type one downstairs. You were unlucky with just 3 years use.

Pjran Definitely, left me feeling so disappointed with the Dyson as thought it would go on forever. I also clean my hoovers out and wash the filters after only a couple of uses, so well maintained too.

Shark are good. Got one. However, their pet hair feature is an add-on brush that can only be used handheld, not on the main brush which is annoying. I almost don't see the point - you can't vacuum an entire house or even room with the smaller attachment.

I would definitely recommend shark hoover. I had a Dyson which I thought was good but since I got a shark and noticed the difference I would never go back to a Dyson

I really want to get a Shark vacuum as they are highly recommended. In the meantime I have a Henry numeric which is actually really good for both hard floor and carpets and I have two dogs and a cat and it is good for getting up pet fur.

They are also good for vacuuming cars!

I'm happy with my 2 Dysons (normal and cordless ) . Strange how people always claim that Shark are the best ? It must be in peoples minds ?

Dyson corded models are at the top of the "Which" reviews scoring 80% -85% , Shark corded models a little behind scoring 73% to 78% .

For the cordless models there is an even greater discrepancy . Dysons again scoring 80% - 85% but Shark cordless models score just 67% - 73% below some Beko and Vax models .

I bought my Dysons a couple of years back and wondered what all the fuss about Sharks was ? Was even tempted to buy one of those "amazing ? " Shark machines until I read the Which tests .

Bear in mind a new vac will obviously perform better than an older one even if it is scrupulously cleaned after every use . Obviously if we spend a lot of money on something we are going to "want " it to be better and maybe convince ourselves it is ? (I'm the same with golf clubs 🙄 !) .

I haven't got a Shark , so no axe to grind , don't shoot the messenger read the Which reports .

I am really sorry - but do you have to pay for the which reviews? i am interested in seeing this. I just want a model which is not a ridiculously priced and better than the henry hoover i currently have

Golfforall ahh okay that explains why I couldn't see it online when I searched. I might actually consider doing this myself. I plan to move house in a few months and will be buying new appliances like washing machine and fridge freezer. so will be good to have this information.

thank you for your input regarding hoover. to be fair the dyson hoover and shark hoover are similar prices on argos. my mum always had a dyson and i did always find it good. you've given me something else to consider. thank you

lauren4 TBF it probably saved me 2 or 3 hundred quid . If it had said the Sharks were brilliant (like many owners say ) I may have bought one , but it rated them well down on Dyson . Also told me this American Fridge Freezer was as good if not better than the more expensive Samsungs and LGs https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/deals/hisense-american-fridge-freezer-140-off-ao . Tipped me towards buying one and its great .

Did also say that with Hisense televisions you get what you pay 😒 for (not a recommended buy !) .

Ours is a Shark and I didn't think it's ever beat the previous Dyson but it does! nowhere near as cumbersome and heavy. We purchased at a brill price from Amazon ....it's worth waiting for a good deal I'd say.
