Definite positive , though not quite over the hill yet . That's why the worlds Stockmarkets have risen 5% in the last hour .
Cause for cautious optimism , you'll hear lots more about it during the day , I'm sure.
Probably why Boris is having a News conference at 1700 - Great news to share ! Will make a change from the normal .
Follow the rules for another couple of months and maybe we could be through the worst .

Pfizer CEO has just given a long interview on Bloomberg , sounds very positive . 90% effective in a trial of 43,500 worldwide . UK already has 30 million doses ordered.
Not sure how I feel about a vaccine. Given they usually test drugs for years before administering them to the general population. Who knows the long term effects??
I agree, who knows what side effects those that get inoculated will get and whether they will ultimately regret it!
Yeah I'm very unsure about it, more so if it takes years to sort a vaccine on other stuff, how come it's taken months? Annoying as well that money can be thrown at this pandemic but surely Cancer needs the same investment
tscebraz Billions are also being spent on Cancer , but its a much tougher nut to crack . This one was slightly easier as it has similarities to work already being done for many years on flu and the common cold, so a lot they could read across .
Having said that we aren't there yet but at least there is room for hope
The jab only gives 90% immunity for 28 days btw
They ordered 30mil doses
UK population was 66mil in 2019 so they would only be able to treat specific people and then it would only last for a month
Even with the jab, it is still a long way off being over with.
Need a course of 2 jabs 3 weeks apart . Obviously no one knows yet how long the immunity will last (at least 6 months from the trials ) . And 90% is exceptional - current normal flu jabs are only 60% -70% effective (and have been around that figure for years ).
It may or may not be the "silver bullet" but the best vaccine news since the virus appeared .
I hope that the 30 million doses will be done properly and given to high risk and healthcare workers first then general public then government/entitled older generation.
Obviously not there yet , but light at the end of the tunnel . All the more reason to keep obeying the current rules .
Don't want to infect another million folk (many of whom won't survive ) when the vaccine could be with us in 2 or 3 months and protect us all eventually .
No thank you. I've already been warned by a&e I'm a high chance of needing serious help if I caught it. But I'd rather take my chance with the virus then have the side effects of the vaccine, like I did when I ended up in a&e from the flu vaccine this year. 
They have a vaccine but tell us that the antibodies in ur body only live a few months. Dont think i will be trusting the vaccine
Golfforall I don’t assume they are ‘anti vaxers’ per se, just concerned that this new vaccine is being rushed in with very little advance trial or research on longer term effects.
I'm not an anti vaxer... lol. I have my flu jab every year. Just concerned about the long term side effects of this. Being only 30.... hopefully I have a lot of my life to live.. I would not want a negative effect from this new vaccine. They haven't been able to successfully vaccinate against SARS, but now able to against COVID? Which is a strain of SARS? I'm just cautious. Not an "anti vaxer"

By that time ( I would estimate Summer 2020 for your age group ) tens of millions in the UK and hundreds of millions worldwide will have had the vaccine . We should know much more about the efficacy of this vaccine by then (and the many others ) and indeed more about COVID itself . Perhaps that would be a better time to make your decision ?
Of course the vaccine (or the others being developed ) may not be the "silver bullet " after all . But by the time it comes to your turn to choose there should be a lot more information about the downsides (if any ) of the vaccine and the effects of "Long COVID " even in younger people .
Golfforall I am asthmatic, so would assume I would be eligible for it earlier.
I was thinking more long term then a few months. when you think about other vaccines they are developed and tested on much longer periods.
again i am not saying i would not get one and i will make my decision when more information becomes available. I am just cautious and considering the cons that could be possible.

lcook90 Sorry I didn't know you were in a vulnerable group .Just made my comment on your age group . If the vaccine is approved best to have a conversation with your GP . I understand why you have concerns about long term effects (as we all do ) .
There's no right decision it'll be a question of risk versus reward and that will vary for us all . I am fairly confident that we have learnt from the last major drugs disaster (Thalidomide in the 1960s ).
Not sure I'd feel comfortable getting the vaccine. They would normally take years testing to get it right. Whos to say there wouldnt be a dodgy batch 
Still a few hurdles but if no setbacks could be ready for health/ care workers by January , oldies in February and all of us in March .
By no means a certainty but least a light at the end of the tunnel and there's another 20 or so alternative vaccines in the trials pipeline from other companies .

A flu vaccine actually give the person a mild flu, so its not effective so if Covid vaccine works the same way, well no, how about side affects, has anyone read about human trial results, don't trust big Pharma companies. They can't be trusted with our lives, they've already caused us to loose our jobs, business and our freedom.

None of the flu vaccines contains live viruses so they cannot cause flu.
If you are unwell after vaccination, you may have something else. Or you may have caught flu before your vaccination had worked.
Freeme I am late 60s and had my 3rd yearly jab today. I have never even had a sore arm.
Btw in my job before retired in 2011, we were warned there would be a pandemic in 2008 and began training and preparations. I doubt very much the search for a vaccine only started this year but has rather followed on from previous studies and work.

Just because someone has a different option to you golfforall, it doesn't make them a loony hung up on conspiracy theories. Everyone has a right to choose what is best for them and their families.
