Good News for Wanabee HGV Truck Drivers

Other

With the shortage of HGV drivers things have significantly improved for anyone wanting a licence

Firstly the pay, they can now earn between £30,000 and £50,000 with added bonuses and perks such as overnight stay allowances

The government are also investing £10m to create new skills bootcamps to train up to 3,000 people to become HGV drivers.

These will be free

Also you can now go straight from a car licence to a HGV licence when fully trained instead of intermediate HGV advances which used to cost extra

This is a load of nonsense my husband is a hgv driver and hours are horrible long and investing car drivers a license will cause crashes have you been behind a wheel yourself tried reversing one

I agree A, the hours are long , its not a job for everyone, but at least they are starting to recognise the drivers worth now mainly because of the crisis

I also agree that if they cut corners , like straight from car licence to HGV licence they could endanger people from lack of experience, never a good idea

I have driven large vehicles myself in industry years ago , and i know about the dangers of reversing and jack knifing , its like trying to reverse a large caravan , not easy

telmel it’s not just long a hours if stuck in traffic go over hours you have to sleep where you are. No showers food. The bonuses are a con there is conditions needed to follow don’t hit the truck arrive in time it’s a big responsibility. I will upload a letter now

Scary haveing witnessed hgv crashes into cars and the devastation you need to be properly trained to drive one , it’s a skill worrying

They are cutting back on safety because they are so desperate to get drivers on the road A , i agree its not good

And bringing drivers from other countries is worse, in some places their training will be far inferior to the UKs and couple that with their insufficient knowledge of our roads and being on the other side they are asking for accidents to happen

Not so sure the pay is as good as they say large bakery chain near me offering considerably less than these headline rates , others in my area also offering less a local fuel tanker company is offering £11.20 per hour , so these headline rates may not be all they seem.

Mango4 it’s all lies boris has screwed up and trying to make people think it’s all going to be ok. If companies are all going to be paying higher wages drivers are going to chase that job. Whice then leaves smaller companies without drivers. For the higher wages people will have to travel upto an hour across bridge from Wales for little more you only have to look on indeed and the most in England is around 13 per hour. We shouldn’t have left European

I can see the rates are a lot lower than they say in the news M , so its the carrot they are using to entice more drivers , unfortunately they have taken a few bites out of it already

Thats why the foreign drivers wont come over to the UK, they probably earn more at home and dont need to find and pay for digs and travel
