Are You Good at Saving Money?
Ask a Question
Are you good at saving money or do you like to spend spend spend?!
do you save your money for the future or to save up to buy something?
I’m good at saving money and always save for anything I need rather than using credit, but I also like to buy gifts or treats for my friends and family so I can end up spending too.
You are like me. I am always buying things for my family and save for everything. If I can’t afford it I don’t buy it. I’m saving for a new car at the moment
heatherduthie That’s how I am! If I can’t afford it I don’t get it, will save until I can. I hope you’re able to get your new car soon!
I've always saved hence being able to retire early, but I never went without either just saved up before buying it, never was one to do the never never. Nana always said if you can't afford it you can't have it. This Christmas my Son, daughter and her boyfriend are getting homemade Advent Calendars filled with freebies, prizes or things bought via vouchers I won, 75 boxes and it's cost nothing
cocolgooh We'll find out at Christmas if they think the same There are some very odd and funny item, at least the presents bought with vouchers are sensible
I try to be really good at spending money. I used to put atleast 3/4 of my wages away when living with my parents. Of course that changed quickly when I got my own place lol. But I still try to put away something after all the bills have been paid
I'm pretty good at saving money, I'm quite sensible in that regard and I've never had expensive tastes. Plus I don't really enjoy shopping very much so I think that helps.
I'm very good at saving money. We have always saved each month and we are saving even more now as we have cut back on things as there are things we are saving for and want to try get there a bit faster. I don't mind giving up things for a period of time, especially if they are non essentials. I've always saved so that there is money incase there is an unexpected big bill. I don't have expensive tastes to begin with and I don't enjoy shopping so only do it when absolutely necessary and even then get the best deals I can! We don't have a credit card so if we need something we save up for it. My dad always said if you can't afford it then you don't buy it!
My dad always said "if you can't afford it then you don't buy it!"
Did that include houses MrsCraig?
I think property has proven to be the exception to that rule, over the last 30 years. The more highly geared you were (the higher your % debt), the more money you made as property prices took off.
Gearing can improve the return on your capital investment. It can make your money work harder for you and can help you to make more profit. That said, not always! Personally I think house prices will fall once the recession really bites
Johnny my husband and I saved really hard to be able to afford the deposit on our house and we didn't take out anywhere near the amount they offered us for a mortgage. Not a lot of people can afford to buy a house without a mortgage. There is a difference between taking out a mortgage for a house and wanting something that you simply can't afford. Plus when buying a house if you can't afford the deposit and the mortgage payments that you can't buy it, so yes it includes houses.
MrsCraig "Not a lot of people can afford to buy a house without a mortgage".
That's very true. It's sad that for many people in recent years that unless they overstretched themselves (and/or got help from the bank of Mum and Dad) , house prices and the required deposit simply ran away from them faster than they could save up. As a result, many people who are still renting, have missed the boat.
Now it's getting even worse with many lenders (most) requiring at least 15% deposit.
Mortgage lenders are demanding 20% deposits from first-time buyers due to Covid-19 fallout
I think so. I don’t really like spending money unless I think it’s on something worthwhile, and not many things are worth it
I love spending money , and loads who knows me think I just spend without thinking about future to save some, but I am all controlling it and also save quiet a lot every month .I know my limit thankfully haha
I am trying always to save. Don't getting anything if I can't allow it. Also trying to be prepared for bd,and Christmas presents, look for sales, deals, vouchers. Have 2 kids, buying clothes on sales for next year to not spend fortune after.
Always work out our income each month and make sure so much goes on saving but so we have money to buy things throughout the month.
I used to be really bad at in and have been in debt before. I still struggle but am slowly getting better and have some savings. It's quite nice to see it in my bank balance
