Greggs Staff Bonus

In the News

greggs did well last year, so thousands of staff are set to get a £300 one-off payment

If only other retailers were that generous, although I suspect most did not have a good year

Its great to see the staff being rewarded, all i seem to hear about at the moment is big bosses defending their ridiculous bonuses whilst jobs are being axed

I agree. I’m sure the bosses get their fair share of the profits, but without the ground force they won’t be getting anything.

I would like to see higher wages in the first place rather than a bonus that you may or may not get

I think this is a good idea to give the staff a bonus rather than their shareholders.

Bonuses like this are a great way of managing a business whose income may vary. So while a company is doing well all share in that success but when a company takes a turn for the worse the company is more likely to survive due to lower wages which might give it time to turn the business around and succeed again. The Greggs bonus seems to be a flat rate so even the lowest paid perhaps part time workers get the same payment and is only a small payment. Greggs staff have struck gold compared to many retailers who are looking to downsize and axe many jobs into the new year. I can only remember buying from Greggs once or twice and it was very nice but I'm certainly not a frequent customer but whenever I pass a Greggs they are mostly extremely busy which to be honest is what puts me off as I hate waiting.

That’s true. I’d rather go to a supermarket to pick something up and pay on self checkout rather than wait to be served. But greggs seem to be going well without my custom, so good on them

hspexy I wouldn't be surprised if half their business was at lunch time as often when I pass then excess customers are out on the pavement in some places. So probably a lot of custom from shop workers around them who aren't allowed other cooked food that would smell in the premises. Normally Greggs food doesn't have much smell and that could be one of their commercial advantages. I know many years ago when I worked in a shop I wasn't allowed takeaway food in the premises and the shop was right next to a street full of takeaways but no problem with cooked pastries.

BonzoBanana they are always busy near me, one near work has a 30 deep queue right up till 6pm and I have recently had a new one open up near my house that is open till late and that is always busy, it is near an industrial estate and on a main road with a car park so prime location for them. Think there are 4 within a 5 minute drive of my house now and they all do really well. As much as some meat eaters are disgusted by them selling vegan food, it has really done wonders for their profits, whilst the biggest profit is on hot drinks and not on baked goods, it has meant more people are going in now that their dietary requirements are being met
