I Hate Alexa!

Does anyone have issues with Alexa? I was house sitting and spent some time getting used to Alexa controlling the lights, playing music, telling me jokes...
The main problem I have is that she doesn’t quite fully understand me, and I too perhaps don’t fully understand it (I refuse to call Alexa a ‘her’!)
and tbh I’ve never quite liked Siri either, mainly for the same reasons
Does anyone like or dislike their smart devices?
Actually never used such an app yet but will give Cortana / Assistant / Andy for a Siri-like experience. For something specific, I'd rather just do it myself, though.
Yes, same here. I don’t want to be completely dependent on smart tech. I guess the only other experience I’d compare the assistants to is the self checkouts in the supermarket - that annoying voice you get that tells you thay you’ve got to scan your loyalty card, or that you’ve not put something in the bagging area - that pretentious tone that you’ll never warm to
it probably is! i have fired some unkind words towards it so I’m sure it’s going to retaliate at some point
hspexy My parents had SKy Q delivered on Monday and their new remote for the TV has Alexa or something of that kin inside it. Dad kept talking to the TV through it and searching for content for eg, he could say Tom Cruise and all films with him in were listed. I told my parents that it was now listening to them 24/7 and recording them.
I tried Cortana yesterday and couldn't get her to just play music or a radio station. Useless voice assistant. lol
Indeed! Definitely more work needed to help us assist thoroughly - atm all they do is annoy me lol
The Cortana assistant for Google? Haven’t had the chance. I think they’ve actually decided to scrap the name, as it wasn’t popular
We got it to test for £10, it works with Netflix and plays musics from YouTube. I am happy with it.
I actually did that yesterday and it worked wonders. Said "Play Music" to the phone, then it opened Google's Play Music and started, you know, playing music (country music as it already knows my favorite genre). Although, not music that I own but streamed, interestingly.
Seems it's free somehow because I'm not paying for any subscription on Google's Play Store (Apps/Movies/Music departments).
Rockman I did enjoy using Alexa to play songs from its extensive catalogue, and I found the ‘play whale sounds’ and ‘play sounds of the sea’ was useful to help me relax for when I was ready to sleep. But that was when I first used it - for some reason, the last time I tried the ‘whale sounds’ Alexa was unable to comply. Must be an amazon thing
hspexy You ought to give 'Noisli' app a try, it has pretty relaxing sounds. Listening to nature and pretending to be traveling via a train is quite comforting.
Rockman It plays music from Youtube and can open movies on Netflix and play videos on TV.
Can play quiz and also can answer general question....like What will be the weather tomorrow....
I've not got one. I was looking in to getting one. But charged my mine. I was thinking the same what if we do not get on. And would it be a wast of money. I've not heared of any body having one and like it. I can't see the point of them. Is it just me that feels this way. If I want the lights on tv on I would do it my self.
I agree - I can turn on the light if I need, rather than shouting (Yes, shouting, lol) for Alexa to turn on the lights. Alexa does help you access your media library quicker, but other than that, I have not experienced any other benefits
I only have experience with Siri, and I find it useful if you know exactly what to say and how to say it. Waver beyond that and Siri falls over.
Yes I agree, you’ve got to really be specific and frame questions in order for the AI to understand how to answer them well. Anything that gives them wriggle room for error, they’d just say they don’t understand
