Having a Clear out
Other
I have been having a massive clear out recently and selling or giving away loads of stuff!
Today I got rid of the majority of my baby items, with the exception of some clothes. I had put up items at cheap prices as I just wanted rid of them, one woman took both his play gyms, his comforter, his cot mobile, his sleeping bags, some clothes, some toys, his baby sling, a photo album and a few pampering and make up items for herself, all for £20. I had only asked for £15 but because I had been so helpful and sent her extra photos of things and gave her quite a few items for free, she insisted I took the extra.
It made me feel really good to know that I was helping save her some money, that my sons stuff would be reused and that my son got a wee bit extra for his piggy bank.
It just made me think about how it is nice to help other people and how it can cheer us up at the same time. Plus it is helping me to declutter my house which is an added bonus!
It's a nice feeling in it helping someone plus also clearing some space. I have so much here but with my 3 year old refusing to part with anything I hide it in a cupboard if she not mentioned it in a month I take to charity shop if someone can't agree on a time to collect.
Luckily he is only 15 months so not too attached yet, but he did recognise his stuff when it was given away. If there are certain things no one wants then I will put them to the charity shop.
That’s how I feel when I give my cast offs to charity shops. I don’t advertise them because I dont want the hassle of posting etc.
I only agree to post something if the person pays the postage and even then I only do it if I am going to be out with my son anyway.
I've given loads of stuff to charity too and it definitely feels good.
That was really kind of the lady to give you some extra money, she obviously knew she was getting a good deal and showed her appreciation. It's good to have a declutter, I do sell some of my things on Marketplace with great success. My town also holds a 3 monthly free cycle event which is brilliant, I take items there and also have picked up some great things for my Granddaughter and when she's outgrown them I will take them back. They also weigh the bag of items you take away to show what doesn't go into land fill.
I told her that £15 was more than enough but her partner insisted I take the extra. There was a lot of stuff and it was either new or in really good condition so it was definitely a good deal.
That freecycle event sounds fantastic. Our local church has a playgroup each Friday and there is a bit where you can come and drop off clothes, toys, prams etc and you can take what you need for your baby for free. I think things like that are brilliant, especially when it stops things just being thrown away. I've given away loads of my sons clothes for free, only sold the ones that he had never worn or worn once and even then not for much.
