I have an autistic son who finds Christmas quite overwhelming. The rules around not having families around for Christmas is working in his favour and he'll have less stimulation and stress. For me it'll be less stressful trying to meet everyone's needs

I don't think so. At most I imagine we'll be able to have two households together but I can't imagine more than that. It is only one day though so if I have to have Christmas dinner on Facetime/Zoom to my family I'm just grateful we're all safe and well.

No, if we do not lock down before. Like right now it would be the time to be locked down and than we could avoid not to have Christmas with family. But economy is so important...humanity is secondary...

No. There is only the 4 of us. My husband and I, and 2 teenagers. No other family. So we're fine! We;re actually going to Centerparcs for Xmas this year.

I now have the perfect excuse to not see anyone at Christmas, wherever I go we will break the rule of 6 so I dont have to pretend to like people this year

I was thinking it would be a relief for some folk NOT to have loads of guests and have to spend the day waiting on them. If you are not living alone it should be fine to spend a relaxing Christmas with just your immediate family, it's not a huge sacrifice to make. As you say Ann, a lot will be glad they don't have to entertain in-laws lol.

Possibly, if this new lockdown is enforced properly and proves to be effective. Personally we don't have many people round for Christmas, but I feel for people in your situation who have large gatherings at Christmas as it may not happen this year.

Probably allow family to visit but with restrictions on the numbers and possibly only immediate family or those within Bubbles. Can't see large gathering being allowed this year

I can’t see you being able to have 18 around for dinner this year. Even if the full lockdown has been lifted by then, there will be still tier restrictions in place. I think two households will be the most to hope for

I am assuming single people are still able to be within their support bubble because my son wants me to stay with him, his wife and son for Christmas. No way am I refusing as there will only be 4 of us.

Lynibis if you live alone you can join a family to make upto 6 and same single parents can form together if wonted.

My gut feeling is yes , but not 18 ! Maybe 6-8 .

I think the effects of the lockdown will not show in the figures until the end of November then hopefully be under control by mid December at which stage we will have a 10 day "amnesty " over Xmas /New Year .

That of course will push up the figures again so I can see a fresh 4 week lock down in January .

If I were a betting man I would say

5th November till 20 Dec - This lockdown

21 Dec till 3 Jan - Amnesty (maybe groups of 10 could mix ?)

4 Jan till 31 Jan - lockdown to recover from the Xmas/New Year surge .

Feb onwards back to local tiers . (if under control ? )

I think people need to accept Christmas is going to be very very very different this year. I believe we will be in a lockdown in Jan/Feb again. So would people actually be happy with easing Lockdown for Xmas knowing a very high chance we will be in a lockdown in Jan/Feb?

18 people seems unlikely but if we all behave over the next four weeks, we may be able to have a few people round at least. At least one person taking the mick will read this. Stop, think and consider the rest of us for once. Thank you.

I do think they'll allow some kind of meeting indoors though. It's better to set a guideline and people bend the rules based on that than ban us completely and people set their own guidelines! It's human psychology.

Dennab i bet in December he will extend lockdown in wales from next week he’s pretty much said get on with it. Mix with up to 15 people indoors. In a month numbers will get high and lpack back down for Xmas.

Ann1984 It's bizarre how the countries have become so segregated. It's as if we've gone back to the 10th Century.

There are only 3 of us, so I am hoping my son is able to visit us over Christmas. But the most important thing is keeping loved ones safe.
