Recommended Healthy Dog Food

Ask a Question

Cam anyone help please, I have a labrador who is overweight, as they are known for. She is not 8 years old and had a seizure ar the weekend which freaked me out, now I've decided she needs to lose some weight. Can anyone recommend a good health dog food, she normally has dried food but happy to try anything if it helps her.

Thank you

Sorry to hear she had a seizure, I hope she's feeling a bit more like herself today.

We feed ours James Wellbeloved light, it took a little trial and error to get the correct amount so they didn't gain weight, and both mine seem to really like it.

Omg hope she is ok a seizure is scary at any age hopefully she will be feeling better. I feed my Labrador skinners field and trial chicken and sweet potato and she is 11 years old and weighs 32.2kg but they do a field and trial light and senior Image and she gets quite a bit exercise as well, skinners have a Advice centre that will help you get the balance right for the dog

Nickynoo40 oh dear the kindest way would be to reduce the treats, my dog asks every one who comes in for a biscuit so if I have had a few visitors and she has had biscuits off them I reduce her food to compensate for the extra biscuits I have done this with all my Labradors lol. You could always take her/ him to the vets for a health check, good luck but am sure you will reduce her/ his weight

Nickynoo40 if she likes swimming that will help to. there are lots of brands on the market I only stick with the skinners field & trial because I have used it for about 28 years or more and all my Labradors have done well on it, they have a good advice service and you can phone them for nutritional advice, and it’s made in England but I am sure that you will manage to drop the weight of her,

Have you taken her to the vet? My older dog became hungry all the time, put on weight and was also thirsty. She has been diagnosed with Cushings Disease, which apparently is quite common in older dogs. The vet can recommend a suitable food too.

Nickynoo40 yes, I agree. Mine is now on Tesco dry food for senior dogs. I measure it carefully. It doesn’t help when I find my husband sharing his porridge with her though! 🙄
