Heart Transplant Patient Gets Pigs Heart

In the News

Just seen on the news that a American man has just been given a pigs heart. Do you think it’s a good idea? Also how do you feel about animals been created for experiments.

Not too sure about this. But I am sure if I was the man or the man’s family then I might think differently. Hope it works though.

i dont personally agree with animals being used like that, i mean its great that a guy could get a new life but seems rather different and risky, hopefully in the case it pays off

Hopefully it works for him. He did say he would give anything a go so hope he gets more time with his family.

When my son had his heart operation, they used bovine tissue as a patch. If it was the choice between using bovine or other animal tissue or my son dying, I would pick the animal tissue every time.

I think it's a great thing we breed animals for many reasons like eating !! So I will take a pigs heart everyday

When I was younger, being a T1 diabetic I was on pig insulin to keep me alive. Not quite the same, I know, but it's amazing what the medical world can do.

I don’t fully agree with using animals in general, but I know such practices (which are age long) will transform people’s lives

I am incredibly interested to see if it will work long time. In the U.K. don’t you have to opt out if you don’t want to be a donor now ?

Animals being used for experiments has been going on for ever and ever..down to the eyeshadows we wore in the 80s..so if it can save a life rather than a pallete of colour then i go with a beating heart that give generations of happiness.

My Dad had one heart valve repaired and another replaced 2 years ago. He had a pigs valve. I dont eat meat and against animal experiments, so I was put in a predicament. My Dad was given up to two years to live in Oct 2019, so he wouldnt be here now without the surgery, which I am entirely grateful for.
