What did your doctor say?

I don't think that there's a correlation between thyroid and IBS, but I might be wrong.

Have you been advised about any possible causes when it comes to IBS? Maybe your diet?

I feel for you because my best mate had IBS and he really struggled.

He said I had a overactive thyroid & suffer with IBS could be caused by stress it's difficult to eat certain foods because it's very hard to change what i eat as the food for people who suffer with IBS is tasteless & horrible.

I am not sure anyone on here can help you, unless we have any medic members.

I have an underactive thyroid but rely on my doctor to monitor and treat with levothyroxine, regular blood tests etc. You need to have a good chat with your doctor or surgery nurse.

Doctors are really useless subscribed me with Carbimazole for thyroid & Mebeverine for IBS seem to think they can just pump you with tablets & things will be OK.

My hubby has IBS. I bought him strong probiotics. It does help him a lot to settle his tummy. He takes 1-2 capsules daily. And in regards to thyroid it's a hormonal issue... also it depends if its overactive or underactive..? But for both it's a good idea to watch your diet. Does some foods makes it worse for you? The same or maybe next day? Keep a food diary for few weeks and jot down what you eat and how it affects you. Then you will know what triggers it for you. But really the healthier and more varied your diet is with plenty of water, fruit, veg etc the better you should feel. Try to cook your own food and avoid processed food full of refined sugar...

I found this it's quite recent advice for you.

Blueorchid has some good advice there. I also have IBS along with other Gastro issues & find probiotics do help. Keeping a food diary is a good idea. I did one when I first started having problems & was surprised what foods were triggering me. (Still not over coffee being a trigger 😔) I can sympathise with the sleep cramps, I get them occasionally. I find taking painkillers & sleeping with a hot water bottle helps. I think hormone changes can affect bowels so possibly thats why you find a connection between your thyroid & IBS symptoms, I not an expert but something to discuss with your GP at least maybe.

Was it the FODMAP diet? https://www.gastroconsa.com/patient-education/irritable-bowel-syndrome/low-fodmap-diet/

Your post reminded me of it. OP you basically eat all foods in the green section in that link for 2-3 weeks then you can slowly introduce red sided foods & see if any trigger you. Some IBS sufferers have found it helpful. It is quite restrictive initially but might be worth a look for you.
