Hidden Cruise Fees & How to Avoid Them

Other

I think this woman is great , cruises are expensive as it is, and some of her cost saving tips are brilliant

She has found numerous ways to avoid the extortionate extra charges most cruise companies charge

Attending organised functions to get free drinks, or making friends with those with a drinks package to get the rounds in

Only asking for room service if she can get it free and avoiding very expensive wi fi

The photograph idea is another gem

I think she should write a book

This doesn’t work, making friends with those with a drinks package to get the rounds in. You can only order one drink at a time.

Pjran Maybe the person with the package orders a drink for the friend P , then 10 minutes later gets themselves one, they can order as many as they want unless there is a limit ?

telmel some packages do have a limit. These cruise savings are nothing new, they’ve been around years. You can get free Wi-Fi if you have a certain loyalty with the cruise line or follow the staff in port, they always know the hotspots.

Pjran Ah ok, i didn't know this as i have never been on a cruise

So it's similar to what some spanish resorts are doing, limiting the all inclusive to say 6 alcoholic drinks a day ?

telmel I’ve dont know the limit for all the cruise lines, I’ve never reached the limit. In fact on our last Celebrity Cruise if it wasn’t for the amount of coffees I drank it wasn’t worth the $55 a day.

Pjran I always thought all inclusive with a drinks package was a waste of time P

As we get older we don't want to get paralytic like some younger people do

Especially not on a boat 🤢

telmel often there are two or three packages, non alcoholic, standard alcohol and premium alcohol.

jms19 You don’t have to do the excursions lots of places are walking friendly. We even used buses and trains to get to various places.

Pjran You will always find Wi-Fi somewhere when you get off, just make sure your mobile contract covers where you are going.

My partner & I are going on our first Cruise around the Mediterranean to celebrate my 60th next May, before he booked he took advice of a Walking Football mate who's done over 20 Cruises...

janphoenix51Have a wonderful time I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. If you would like a birthday cake then let the cruise line know, they’re free and often served at dinner. Cruising is more affordable today than when I first started.

Pjran Which line are you travelling with? Oh about the birthday cake, sometimes the waiters sing to you as it’s being presented to you.

Pjran ...I presume this question is for me??

My partner has booked our seven day Mediterranean Cruise through Marella Cruises to celebrate my 60th birthday next May.

It's our first cruise hence only a short one to see if we like it...

janphoenix51 you’ll thoroughly enjoy it and kick yourselves for not cruising earlier. My sister didn’t cruise for years assuming it would be too posh and now goes several times a year solo.

janphoenix51 We are going on our ninth cruise in two weeks. Once we have paid for the cruise we don’t pay out much after that. We can take our drinks if we want, soft drinks or alcoholic, we don’t drink a lot. We have won bottles of wine on board and also got bottles of Prosecco for free after making a complaint. Tea, coffee, juice and water is free. After a meal in a restaurant you can ask for a cappuccino or hot chocolate, they dont let you know this. We have never been on an escorted tour and get local buses which are cheap.

janphoenix51 I dont drink, we tried to give the bottle to a member of staff but she didn’t like Prosecco either. My husband had to drink the bottle himself.

martinlufc5637 I used to get ill on any boat I went on. Ferries were really bad across to France and even to the Isle of Wight. I won’t lie, I have been on eight cruises and overall I have been fine, the bay of biscay can be a bit choppy.

Pjran..

Thank you..

We are going away 6th to 13th of May & I turn 60 on 24th May..

I'm celebrating my 60th by going to Sheffield United's Bramall Lane ground to watch Paul Heaton, supported by The Lightning Seeds & Shed Seven the day after my birthday. My actual birthday I will probably go for a family meal..

Paul always looks after his fans & is a Sheffield United fan, tickets were around £40..

My mate & her identical twin turn 50 on June 8th so she's joining me along with my little brother, his wife & 3 of our friends...
