They closed down lots of their stores a while back and only had a few left and went mainly online. It's a shame that they are gone now too.
Mothercare is very expensive and also the quality of the products are poor.
Most of the clothes are made in China and they not the right size on the little ones.
Their marketing fails with the product line...if the things were better quality, I would buy them.
Was the place to go years ago for baby items, but competition from supermarkets , lower priced stores and the internet, has meant like many stores they are no longer able to compete .
I'm very price sensitive (ok tight fisted) and tend to only shop locally for food shops and the discounters, B&M, Poundland, Wilkinsons etc and also like to browse charity shops. I don't want to be buying from Amazon and ebay as its bad for the economy and the environment but like many choose the cheapest supplier. I also buy from aliexpress for certain products.
Amazon pricing reflects the pricing of their competitors so as competitors disappear their pricing increases so if Mothercare disappears it's likely Amazon's pram prices will increase. Saying that I have no idea who are the main sellers of prams etc in the UK but Amazon will automatically increase their margin if they can.
Oh, another one?
U.K. retail market is certainly looking like it's going to be rebooted in some way.
High Street shops closing doesn't surprise me anymore. Its a shame to see mothercare go as I used to love browsing when I was pregnant with my first, it wasn't competitivly priced though so couldn't have survived. Although it's a nice experience I'll still always find the cheapest supplier.
