Hoarding Problems

Feedback

I was wondering if anyone suffers from the compulsion to hoard? I have been watching the new Netflix show Consumed & it is interesting to me as I am such a keeper/hoarder.

This show is more me as the specific hoarder shows they are usually filthy inside but I'm just consumed by stuff. I keep the main parts of the house nice & clean & tidy but every drawer or cupboard is crammed & my attic is full to bursting however my bedroom is like an explosion!

I desperately want to declutter but like the people on the show I can't let things go as I see a use for everything and if someone has given me something I can't rid of it as I feel like it means I don't care.

Help me please!! Are you a keeper or are you organised?

I am a bit of a minimalist and if something has not been used for a year or more, it goes. Not many people ask you where is the gift I gave you 2,3,4 years ago so you are pretty safe to pass on or give to charity if you haven't used it. I personally cannot stand chaos so it would really do my head in to have stuff everywhere that was visible. I don't even like staying in TKMaxx for long as it is so messy and unorganised.

I wish I was more minimalist for sure. You made me smile comparing it to that shop as I love TKMaxx as it's so chaotic it makes me feel happy! Do you mind me asking, do you consciously stay tidy or are you naturally a tidy person?

SandyRhodes I would say a bit of both. I still work full time but there is only me to tidy after. But if I bother to cook a proper meal and the kitchen is a mess I am not beyond leaving it until the next morning lol! My home probably looks tidy as it is not cluttered but if someone looked carefully I am sure they would find a few dusty surfaces, the odd cobweb on the ceiling and draws in disarray. The garden looks good for the odd few weeks but I soon get fed up with keeping it so all year!

I used to collect video games (software, hardware) but sold pretty much all of it earlier this year (still kept a low amount though that has no resale value so no point) to get rid of it in order to make space and get the $$$ that I spent. I felt that having that around was somewhat 'locking' me from going anywhere because it'd always worry me if someone were to steal or if it all got destroyed by natural causes.

Now I just have the essential, laptop, external hard disk, tablet, powerbank, headphones and some books (still yet to read 'em).
