Has Your Home Cooking Improved?
Ask a Question
With everyone being in lockdown for extensive periods and being unable to eat out, has peoples cooking skills improved ?
I made this chicken and vegetable pie last night. I am really pleased with the outcome, especially since this was the first time I have ever made a pie. I have also been making many soups with my trustee MR soup maker I won in a competition.
TerenceMealing Thank you! Much better than shop bought pies. You can never beat homemade.
RegularComper90 I have to go to the chiropractor today but hopefully I can be on my way after that. I'll need directions ..... how do I find the pie?
RegularComper90 wow!!! I envy you that pastry! Is it home made too? Not being rude but am genuinely interested. The whole thing looks so tasty!
BORDERJOE Hello. The pastry itself is a store bought ready to roll. But I used 1 egg with 2 teaspoons of cold water as an egg wash. This is what gives the pastry a nice glossy golden brown coating.
Adding water or milk to your egg wash also helps to prevent the crust from cracking whilst it's cooking.
I have definitely made more of an effort at weekends. I made salt and pepper chicken, currys sauce and egg fried rice it was lovely x
Not necessarily cooking more as I cook a fair bit anyways, we have been making more 'fakeaway' type meals at weekends tho rather than ordering takeaway.
My husband and I have always been good cooks. We have been experimenting more with different types of foods and trying new recipes during lockdown but we have always done a lot of cooking in our house.
Don't know if my cooking improved but with not being able to run to shops get an ingredient we not got been planning meals. So being more adventurous
My husband has always been the better cook, as he can make nice meals up with whatever we have in the fridge and store cupboard. Done lots of home cooking throughout lockdown since last March and my shopping bill has reduced a lot
After 50 years of cooking I wouldn't say my cooking has improved. If it's no good by now then it never will be lol. But I have been cooking more as I am not so tired as when I usually get home from work prior to lockdown. I have had more time to make family favourites like cakes, quiche and my latest approved dish the humble cheese and potato pie.
