Who's Ready For Home Schooling?

So who's ready and prepared for this we were given out this evening ours from school.
They could of kept things simple but no my child not happy.
Has one on one support in school so this is going to be a challenge with 2 more to home school too. Why not just keep to basic maths and English the important stuff but no it's a proper classroom timetable am not tech savy enough either for the work needed to be done
I wonder why the schooling couldn't continue via the internet, for those children (and I would assume it's a vast majority) who have internet access, perhaps not as good as actual classroom but better than nothing. It would keep the teachers in work too. (but no doubt they're still being paid)
A lot of learning with take place through digital learning and teachers are expected to work from home developing work for pupils to do, marking the work that pupils have done, offering help and advice etc.
Yes teachers are still being paid, this situation is not one of their making so they shouldn't be penalised for it, nor should anyone else during this situation. We all have mortgages, bills and families to look after.
People are far to quick to blame teachers for things, especially when they are out of their control! My husband is a teacher and has been told by his union he is not allowed to go into the school on a volunteer basis to help teach the pupils of key workers, due to our sons health condition. So he has been told he has to work from home. He is currently sitting on his laptop, developing work for the pupils. He had been going into work every day and risking his own health and the health of our son, to make sure that the pupils weren't missing out. People need to stop using teachers as scapegoats! Rant over!
MrsCraig Hi, I agree. One of my sisters works in education and has to risk the health of her husband and her girls too. We all have to work together to get through this. I have friends working in transport etc and those that are self employed and are worried. I appreciate everyones efforts at this time. As you said we all have bills to pay and worries about the health of our loved ones. Take care and best wishes to your family x
MrsCraig Hope you didn't think I was making teachers scapegoats or blaming them in any way, not having school age children I wasn't aware that the internet was actually being used, and half guessed that the teachers wouldn't lose pay, nor should they.
Yeah, they do it in Hungary....teachers need to teach online....maybe UK need to follow the East this time, not just on tech and teaching but also on science...

davidstockport my rant wasn't aimed at you in any way, sorry if you thought it was! I didn't think you were making them scapegoats, it was more just that I had seen lots of posts from people complaining about teachers still being paid but not having to work and complaining about lots of other things relating to teachers, so just thought I would rant on here about it! But please don't think I was having a go at you!
Every council will be different, but we are using lots of different digital learning tools and sites and pupils have to log in, so you can see who is doing work and who isn't.

we all have to try our best during this and to help each other out. Teachers, NHS staff, supermarket workers are all risking their health and that of their families to make sure that people are being cared for and have what they need. We need to be thanking these people. Stay safe and look after yourself, same for your sister and her family x
What the schools have provided is based on the timetable that they would follow in school but schools are expecting you to follow this to the letter, instead to do as much as you are able to without causing stress or anxiety. The teachers have provided more work than they expect you to do to ensure that they have done their jobs. But this situation is completely different to normal home schooling, where you have planned to teach your child from home, you have researched etc, so just do what is possible. Plus allowing them to do other activities such as playing, colouring, free reading time, cooking, even doing household chores is all a form of learning and you can add in easy to implement tasks to these chores to ensure there is learning element. For example baking teaches fine motor skills and numeracy.
Please do not stress yourself out over this. Do as much of the work they have sent home for your children but don't stop doing the normal activities you do outside school hours. Let them go on their games for half an hour as a break, let them watch cartoons etc. You can get them to write an episode of their favourite cartoon, this activity incorporates art and literacy and is creative too and requires some paper and pencils/pens.
As teachers we want what is best for our pupils during this situation and as their parent, you will know what that is.
MrsCraig it is a lot mind on top of the weekly task in Wales they have also the government national test whice I was emailed over 20 past papers to complete. I just said do what you can. Husband said if I was still at school no school no work so if he was home schooling they be doing nothing unless they have a break down and he rips out the Internet wire
Ann1984 I agree that it is a lot, but the past papers will help with the national test so do as many as possible, but space them out so you aren't all getting bogged down with it. All pupils are different, so some will get through work really quickly, others will take their time. Each approach is absolutely fine, you do what works best for you and your children. As teachers we want to be able to support pupils and parents during this time so if you are struggling with any of the work etc then email the school and they will be able to help. Also I fully recommend that as the Easter holidays are approaching that you treat it as the holidays and don't do school work during that time.
I think children should recieve the same amount of work via internet as I assume everyone will have some type of access to internet.
