Hot Cross Buns - Buy Them or Make Them?
Ask a Question
So Mary Berry has stated that she considers shop-bought hot cross buns to be better than the ones she makes at home, because it's difficult to get them 'light and right'
I mean I wouldn’t argue with that - I have never liked the stuff, so I’m sure the ones I make will be disgusting
Do you tend to make or buy your hot cross buns?
I adore hot cross buns but have never considered making my own. If shop bought are ok for queen Mary then they are ok for me
I make them.
They are perfectly "light and right" if you know what you are doing, and prove them properly.
When people make yeast based products, there is a tendency to rush them.
I will be doing neither as I can't stand them! My mum used to buy them every year for my dad but I just never liked them.
I do enjoy a hot cross bun. Last year I had some M&S blueberry ones that were very nice. I like the Tesco finest ones too. Never made them myself tho.
I saw some blueberry ones in M&S today, marked down to 15p as they had a load of them and the shops are **** tomorrow. I still couldn’t bring myself to buy them
Hi hspexy my mum loves the m&s apple and cinnamon ones. I can't imagine they'd be easy to make, well not for me anyway lol
Hot Cross Buns are not that hard to make, of course that is dependant on if you have the flour to make them. That said it's so much easier to just buy a pack, but there is a satisfaction in doing your own.
I buy hot cross buns, in fact I have pack in the freezer for tomorrow. Anything that involves yeast I buy.
I used to make them, not that difficult if you have time and warm place, just don't be in a hurry. Now I buy from Morrison as there is just me eats them
