How to include images in your comments
Help
Disclaimer: As I typed this post out I realised this isn't the most intuitive system in the world so, watch this space, as there will be improvements
I've noticed a few people, understandably, struggle with including images. Hopefully this post helps!
You can include images in your comments by typing/pasting in the URL to the image file.
If you're using a desktop browser, you can usually find the image link by Right Clicking the image and choosing "Copy Image URL"
It should look something like this:
www.example.com/image.filetype
It'll only work if the URL ends with:
- .jpg
- .gif
- .png
These are the three most common types of image file. The system checks to see if the URL ends with one of those three and, if it does, it'll automatically convert it into an image.
Troubleshooting
- Deals/Vouchers/Freebies/Competitions and Topics won't automatically include images. The reason is boring and geeky but, the good news is, this will hopefully change in the future. But, for the moment, the "description" of a deal or the contents of a new topic won't convert an URL into an image. If you want to include several images with a new deal you've found please post them as comments
- I edited my comment and now the image doesn't work. Whoops, sorry! That was my bad - we had a bug that meant after editing a comment an image wouldn't work. That's now fixed
- I've copied an image URL but it doesn't end in .jpg/.gif/.png how do I include it? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm afraid you can't at the moment. The system won't realise it's an image file you're linking to and so it'll just include it as a link. Hopefully I can make something more intelligent in the future!
I hope that makes sense but please shout with any questions!
Awwww yaay!! Adding images from phone is also a bit troublesome at the moment. Would there be an option in the future to add images direct from phones gallery?
UPDATE: Below no longer works
Hey nemosays - hopefully we can improve this in the future. For now, a little work around is with the free app called imgur.
If you download the app and create a free account, it will allow you to upload any images for free.
You can then copy the URL from within the app, and post it here in the comments.
I realise this isn't the best solution, but just as a quick workaround for now if you're desperate!
Tom This url is from Imgur, however it does not post the image... help please!
Cool. Just had to add the link and that's it. Still doesn't work when adding to the deal's post but that's going to be fixed as stated.
