Interesting question!

LatestDeals.co.uk was created as an alternative to HUKD and here’s why we think it’s better.

Three years ago, Kelsey, Deepak and I set out to create a deals community that is positive, constructive and a fun place to be.

LatestDeals.co.uk has quickly grown and we’re almost at 1 million members. Can you believe it! So many have switched and we receive lovely emails every day saying how relieved members are to have found a new home.

We’re super open and welcoming, and unlike HUKD we give back to all members with points and Amazon vouchers.

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply.

I like this site but i hope you don't mind me saying in that it appears to be a long way behind compared to HUKD in terms of popularity.

That is pretty self evident in the number of votes on any given deal.

So the million dollar question as are there any plans to increase the traffic? After all that must be the objective.

I think the vouchers you offer to those that take the time to post are an excellent idea by the way.

PennyTrader Thank you very much! Glad you're enjoying it 🙂 Yes, Latest Deals is much smaller. We quite like it that way as we get to know each other and it feels more homey. But, we're also 3 years old compared to 16 years old, but almost 1 million members already so growing much faster ;-)

Also, you may not know but on LD, the likes are genuinely 1 like = 1 like.

On HUKD, 1 upvote does not always equal 1 degree of heat. It depends on your level of experience and engagement. So for some people 1 upvote equals 4 degrees of heat. So it can be a bit misleading.

And yes, always working very hard to spread the word of Latest Deals! You can read some of our recent national press coverage here.

Tom no worries, whilst you admit yourself the Latest Deals is much smaller and you prefer it that way i can't help but think this site will always lag behind when it comes to people looking for deals and likewise sharing deals, personally i find that frustrating being an active member on HUKD where the site staff run the website almost like a tyranny! I would like to see latest deals grow to become better then hukd and the rewards for all to far outweigh those currently being benefited by the admins and also certain posters of hukd!

Without wanting to sound negative i just cannot see Latest Deals attracting the same level of attention of hukd in the future which if i am being honest is a real shame because i do think there are plenty of people using that site but are looking for something better.

Tom I'm not quite sure what you meant by the degrees of heat on HUKD etc.

But don't feel you've got it quite right with "but on LD, the likes are genuinely 1 like = 1 like". I feel it should be "but on LD, the likes are genuinely 1 like = 5 points" .

It's my opinion (and others share this opinion) that while people are being rewarded to like deals, the "likes" on deals are never going to be taken seriously by anyone, especially when it's blatantly obvious that so many just hit the like button (regardless of the deal) five times a day for 25 points.

Fair enough, Do you use hukd and have you posted on there? Just curious really as i have already said the reward scheme for posting deals is a great idea but LD just doesn't have anywhere near the same 'spark' and interaction as hukd and that is a big shame - it can be made better but only if those in charge of LD want that ( rather then just living off what they have now and hoping it gets better )

PennyTrader Hey 🙂 Just to reassure you that we're always actively working to improve LD! If you, or anyone, ever has any ideas about how we can improve (new features / different rules / something else) we actively encourage people to feed them back to us 👍

A couple of exciting things in the pipeline at the moment are further updates to the app, keyword alert notifications (so you can get an instant alert for "glitch" for example), improvements to the points system (new ways to earn and potentially different types of reward!), new automatic bonus information on posts (price history graphs etc to help better inform members and perhaps spark more discussions!) and loads more!

Even though they're "the competition" HUKD can be a great resource too. After all, it did in part inspire the creation of LD! I'm not sure about the longevity of a post about LD on HUKD though 🙈

Kelsey Hi Kelsey, Sounds great some of the progress being made, I just think LD could do with a makeover - there's no harm in replicating the layout similar to HUKD' After all they continue to make what appears to be a roaring success of it, whilst I am open to offering ideas I think they ( hukd) do offer a layout in which there many users find useful.

I kind of agree with there hot & cold vote system too - rather then just one or a few likes on LD

Some posters feel there efforts in posting a deal once it has gone ' hot' makes it all worthwhile, I know that may sound a bit daft but it's true, the downside is a deal that goes cold can also put people off posting but by the same way it also can encourage them to post better deals and become ' deal savvy'

There will be Positives and negatives with any layout but I do believe LD should try more towards replicating what HUKD are doing including the system they use - I think it will generate more traffic given time and can't do any harm either!

The size and audience of the two websites are also self evident by this thread alone - had this been a question posted on hukd asking the same ' what does everybody think of Latest Deals ' for example there would have been dozens of replies by now..

Not really, HUKD now employs so called ' Experts' to find and post deals and they get paid in return.

Latest deals is the only website that will pay a token of appreciation by way of vouchers etc to all those that post albeit it takes quite some time to get the points needed ( not knocking that because I fully appreciate resources to offer post incentives are always going to be limited to a large audience)

Other sites are MSE - Offer of the day etc but they don't offer anything at all.

Latest deals has a good platform to build upon but I can't help think it's got a long long way to go before it gets to a level close to what hot UK deals are doing hence this thread.

Censorship, whiny/sensitive users and all trying to be funny to be the top comment.

One of the users there who tries to be all "American" comes off as awkward and cringe, because he gets so many things wrong about U.S. and don't even get me started on the fact he uses the dollar symbol when he's talking about pound sterling prices. Well, the symbol "$" isn't exclusive to USD, but it's commonly known for. For example, the original currency of Portugal used the $ symbol too, but now (since the late 90's) they changed to € as they've decided to be part of the EU.

By the way, the hot/cold system isn't that great either. There's good deals that go cold and bad deals that go hot. Like, garbage fast food goes hot on there. They don't seem to care about preserving their bodies and health.

Hi PennyTrader,

We've had to remove your discussion "Latest Deals". We've been made aware that this was shared on latest deals too. We don't need this discussion on our site. Whether latestdeals wants it on their site is entirely up to them.

If you'd like to discuss this feel free to reply to this message.

Thanks!

“ We’ve been made aware that this was shared on latest deals too “

Yes - and ? The question stands for both websites - Tyranny on HUKD - Meanwhile latest deals don’t care for the same post asking there users about HUKD.

So why so secretive ?

HUKD is basically a 'dead man walking'.

Over woke mods that delete any comment for no apparent reason.

And there's no transparency.

It's well known that certain companies send admin a list of deals which are then posted. And admin will admit to it too.

I came here after reading a post on Trustpilot where someone was flaming HUKD.

A really good thing here is the Chat which was basically dead on HUKD.

I wish Latest Deals all the best and hope it will prosper.

You are more wrong then you could imagine and I am sorry to say that - forget trustpilot it counts for little these days unfortunately - HUKD is prospering and prospering well - I am trying to wake up latest deals to that fact starting today but if they don’t listen it will not prosper and continue to go relatively unnoticed.

PennyTrader I disagree totally.

I came over here because HUKD has so many posts that are put up by admin or 'pepper experts'.

As for Trustpilot, I was just reading the recent reviews and someone mentioned LatestDeals, so I came over here.

The problem with HUKD is that deals are posted by admin/pepper and they all vote each other up, so you don't get a proper representation of that deal.

I had an up vote of +5 on HUKD and I don't think it was right.

TheChimp oh, plus they experts are in competition with each other, so I don't think they will all be giving heat to each other. Staff perhaps, sure, but I've seen certain stuff here seemingly get manually inflated too.

MeestairChrees But they don't! The majority of their deals are rubbish.

I can pick up the latest catalogue from Screwfix and post a hundred deals from them.

I can also post every single Anker product that's available on Amazon.

HUKD has had it. All the old timers who used to use Discussions have either left or have been banned. It's all down to their over woke attitude.

There's also a total lack of transparency where members don't know whether a deal has been given to admin so that they can post it. And then all admin/pepper vote it up blindly.

TheChimp If you're going to use taking deals out of Screwfix catalogue as an example, that's exactly what happens on here. I've seen members just posting deals from the same website on a daily basis and sometimes just because it's from a website that calls everything it sells 'deals'. Groupon and Time Out Deals spring to mind. Also, you do realise there are over 800 deals on here from Screwfix don't you? That's rather high in propotion to the reduced member size considering HUKD only has around 2500 from a much higher member count.

It's a case of quality vs quantity. As members on here earn points for posting, there is more of an incentive to post deals that are not as well-researched. It is also less likely that those deals will be criticised if they are not any good because I have already found out to my detriment that criticism is not taken well. The majority of responses I see are "that's lovely" or "thank you so much for posting". That's all very nice but doesn't really help to point out which deals are truly a deal.

I saw one a few days ago for a table that had an RRP of £100 and it was 'reduced' to £50. In reality, the product is available for £42 on eBay, full price. The deal posted on here was from one of those websites that supposedly has good 'deals' but it's just marketing (eg. Groupon). That post would have been ripped apart on HUKD and people can be harsh but the result is that the highly rated deals on there can generally be trusted whereas on here, there may be one genuinely good saving within 1 in 10 posts.

I may have joined recently but have been browsing the site for a lot longer than that. To be fair, the HUKD system does not always work because sometimes people vote based on their liking of the product and not whether it's a good deal. I can see that happens on here too with the likes though, especially as they also add points to one's account.

Dennab It's not just based on people's liking of a lot deals though, it's admin and pepper 'experts' voting their deals up. And with extra voting power, the posts go artificially high.

I like this site where it's one vote only.

TheChimp I get that but there are way too many so-called 'deals' on here that really aren't that at all. They are just products that people like and are making pleasant conversation about. I've already searched for a few things I needed and had to go back over to HUKD to get a result. That'll be down to the limited demographic on here as well.

Hi, I've been on hukd for years and there are some brilliant characters on there. I've made a few friends which I wasn't looking to do when joining an online shopping site. I have seen other members who disagree with the mods for being inconsistent etc immediately shut down by a mod or mods. They do appear to be very over the top at times. The pepper expert introduction has upset a lot of people on there. They have some brilliant deals I have to say.
