Ice Cream is a Super Food
Ask a Question
I read that researchers from Harvard and other institutions have analyzed decades of dietary data involving hundreds of thousands of people. One analysis found that ice cream consumption was associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, an unexpected result considering its sugar and fat content.
Scientists have suggested that the structure of dairy foods, including their combination of fat, protein, and sugar, may influence how the body processes them.
This is good news for ice cream lovers. I prefer gelato myself, preferably a nutty flavoured one, or something with pistachios (not the Dubai stuff!)
Do you have a favourite ice cream?

Loved the Pistachio geleto from the oldest geleto shop in Florence, Italy last year for my 60th birthday cruise..
Loved.the Tiramsu flavour too the queue to the shop went down the street!
janphoenix51 ah yes, Iâve heard itâs quite famous & very popular, something Iâm keen to try one day. Iâve had the gelato from the Remeo brand from Waitrose & loved it - definitely can taste how good it is compared to standard ice cream sold in supermarkets
I love pistachio myself. My favourite is creme de mascaponi but usually buy ben and Jerry's as its my children's favourite. Rum and raisins another favourite i never get.
Imnotcheap , The Pistachio Ice Cream was recommended by my our daughter who had been to Florence with her old school friends, she told us where the oldest cafe in Florence was & how popular it was so we just had to try it...
I need to look more into this scientific research before I started eating ice cream. I am diabetic as it is a food that I avoid because of the contents. I never used to eat a lot of ice cream before becoming diabetic so I donât miss it. Last one I had was in Sardinia a few years ago, absolutely delicious. I prefer caramel or mint flavours.
I'm a bit boring regarding ice cream, I only ever have raspberry ripple, I find chocolate or strawberry sickly
martinlufc5637 tbh when the basics are done well, then thatâs all you need - a simple, well made product that never grows old & still popular with the generations to come (vanilla is quite popular with a lot of people & I enjoy it also)
Due to a family member who used to work for Walls Ice cream and seemed to have a never ending supply to give to my mother, I ate my body weight in ice cream as a child and as a result do not eat it any more. I'm all ice creamed out. I used to like vanilla and strawberry. I'm very exciting like that.Ate way too much viennetta as well.

Sherrifffroggy lol lucky you! I remember enjoying Viennetta as a child & I tried it a few years ago, & it tasted nothing like how I remembered (didnât enjoy it at all). Either theyâve changed to ingredients (Iâm sure they have) or I misremembered enjoying it (or Iâm spoilt by the million other choices available)
hspexy They probably have changed to ingredients to something cheaper. I ate ice cream by the ton, and mousses, artic rolls and lots of jelly and blancmange; none of which I eat now.
Sherrifffroggy nice gif for the Viennetta ice cream I also had this when I was younger and it was a delicious
treat with the family havenât had it since then lol. Too many different kinds of flavours these days to choose from
I have literally just finished eating a bowl of ice cream lol. I love it every now and then as a treat when watching a good film with my family. This has made my day lol
I'm a sucker for ice cream and will never turn it down. I don't like chocolate ice cream but I will pretty much try anything. I recently tried Kelly's millionaire shortbread ice cream, it was delicious!
Swimmer94 I like ice cream but donât love it. I am the same as you with chocolate ice cream, just donât like it. My daughter got me to try chocolate and fudge ice cream the other day and that didnât change my mind. I do like ice cream when you find lumps of toffee in it or itâs covered in caramel sauce. Never had the Kellyâs shortbread one but Kellyâs is a nice ice cream.
On the subject of ice cream McDonaldâs weâre doing a deal on their McFlurry yesterday, buy two for two pound for the Oreo or Smartie variety. Checked the app this morning, not showing up yet but maybe later when they start serving them at a certain time. Most probably after lunch.
eyeballkerry thanks for sharing. I canât remember the last time I had any ice cream for McDonaldâs, but I know it wonât be ad cheap as the 20p cones they used to do - do at least this offer is good for anyone who enjoys their treats (as long as the machines are working! lol)
hspexy I remember when they did the 20p ice cream offer. I have been lucky that every time I have been to McDonaldâs, the machines are working never had an issue with that. Like I say I donât have a lot of ice cream itâs usually just as a treat especially if we are away on holiday another place I had amazing ice cream was Australia. We were travelling around and just came across a place that sold a great range of ice creams and milkshakes. Would love to go back there. Just canât remember exactly.
I think I will need a lot more convincing lol. Anything with sugar I regard as bad bad bad, but it doesn't stop me eating it, although I do try not to have too much.
I had it in wales as a child and loved it. However went somewhere with work and found it very plain.
I'm not a great lover of ice cream really, but I do enjoy the homemade coffee ice using Nigella's recipe. Just double cream whipped up with a tin of condensed milk, instant espresso powder and some Kahlua. No need to whip it again as it freezes either. It's delicious!
