What's Your Ideal Flooring?
Ask a Question
My ideal flooring would be wood, see below
even if it was engineered wood. However I have carpet except for the kitchen and bathroom as my husband like the softness of carpet.
What would you choose if £ was no object ?
I prefer wood over carpet at least looks wise, comfort wise carpet has the edge. I am looking at doing some stuff myself soon and considering wood effect tiles as some of those are really amazing
I like carpet, I agree with your husband in that I prefer the softness of carpets rather than wooden floors.
I did try to convince him that you could soften up the space with large rugs, but he said what was the point
With me having dogs I prefer wood as it’s easier to clean and by having wood I have saved a fortune as I would have had at least 5 or more carpets
tara73ziva the problem with dogs and hard floors for me is that they skitter everywhere ...and also ...we ended up with constant floating hairs around the edges ...I guess it depends to a degree on your dogs. ....wish we had one now tho!
BORDERJOE i did have 3 labradors but now I am down to 1 but I have been lucky as they as they did not skitter on the floor, and as they liked to be hovered every time I hover the hairs are not to bad
tara73ziva Ha ... our Joe was a long haired collie and his hairs just floated no matter how well I groomed him .... and as for the vac .... well he was neurotic about it..... yep labs are a different cas e altogether from crazy collies!
Wood, I like carpet ,but it can be only in a bedroom,in all other areas definitely wood, tiles, vinyl, especially if you have pets, easy to clean.
You could both compromise with a wood floor and some lovely rugs. Best to buy the non slip rug underlay so the rugs stay put.
I would choose solid oak wooden flooring, which we had in our last house. It's easier to keep clean and vacuuming hurts my back!
I recently put tiles on kitchen and hallways think they are much nicer than the laminate flooring that was there before more expensive and much more work but worth it I think
I used to have wooden floors in the living room in our old house, wood look lino in the hallways and bedrooms and tile in the kitchen and bathroom.
Whilst wooden floors were better as we had the dog, they were an absolute nightmare to clean. We had a large rug on the floor and it looked nice but it moved every time you walked on it. I never liked the tiles in the kitchen, much prefer lino, easier to clean.
If money was no object I would have lino in the kitchen and bathroom and carpet in the living room and bedrooms, which is exactly what we have in our new house.
If you could guarantee the carpet to stay as good as the day it got laid I would have my whole house in carpet, but being practical i have different floorings for different rooms.
I have porcelain tiles in the sunroom, kitchen and hall, ceramic tiles in the bathrooms and carpet elsewhere. I love the tiles! I find them easy to clean, especially if the dog trails mud in without me noticing!
I watch a lot of property shows and in the US they have porcelain tiling which looks like wood, which is the best of all worlds
