I'm Not Going to Post Competitions Any More.

Ask a Question

I don't think I'll bother posting competitions any more.

All they do is get taken off without a proper explanation.

It's not worth the effort.

for eg

We're afraid your recent post (*****) didn’t meet our quality guidelines (https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/guidelines). We ask that everything featured on Latest Deals is genuinely good value and with a good title, clear image and description. If you have any questions please contact us.

They have all the above included. A competition is a competition.

As long as the prize, and details are there, why should they be taken down?

And then I reported a competition, which had been duplicated, to be told it was wrong, and my points taken off me. Sorry, it was a duplication.

I hardly ever post comps anymore, for the same reason. Last couple were taken down after 12 and 14 days saying they were duplicates, they were but can't understand why the whoops message doesn't come up. Even though I am just unknown member I sort of feel embarrassed and think the original poster may think I have done it deliberately!

Sometimes comps may appear to be duplicates but all the mags seem to offer the same prizes so you may get a dozen of the same prize but from a different provider and they are allowed to stand.

I had a comp removed because many were on the same post but I have seen at least three containing more than one comp recently.

My bugbear is the wording you have replicated above. Not sure how a comp can be not of genuinely good value. Mine have been removed for lack of a proper picture but why is that so important if the prize is good and all details are included.

Also it is hard to find comps when a person can post 27 in a 3 hour period. It seems excessive and rather obsessive when you only get points for 3! But no one else gets a look in as you are always 'pipped to the post'.

All in all I don't bother much with anything except for posting the odd deal, looking in on chat and doing the comps.

It's the vagueness of it all. And the none explanation. That's what I don't like. Why not say what is wrong and then we can either learn from our mistakes, or argue the case. Would it take so much?

DebbieReed2020 I think it is because they rely on the bots to sort duplicates etc as they wouldn't have the time or staff to deal with each post personally. Also there is probably a bit of malicious reporting going on too. There is an element of that on every media platform which is a shame, but sadly it is human nature.

Hi Lynibis

We check each report individually, so even if any users are malicious, they will not succeed and lose the reporting function.

Hello I’m sorry to hear you have had a bad experience on Latest Deals.

Improving our messaging for moderation is one of our top priorities for 2020.

Unfortunately it’s just not up to scratch yet, for the reasons you and others have given. So again, I’m sorry it’s left you frustrated.

At the moment we rely on fellow members reporting things - perhaps it’s a duplicate, perhaps it falls short of our quality guidelines (e.g. no picture, no T&Cs, link to dodgy site, or something else) - and then our mentors review the report.

The system does not currently allow them to write you a personal message of explanation. Instead (and this is what we’re looking to improve), they select from a drop down list of 10 pre-written messages. This is why it’s the same thing over and over.

There are about 200+ reports a day, and some of our Mentors are volunteer members who kindly give their time to help Latest Deals.

We’re looking to improve the way we handle moderation, and I must admit it’s probably one of most difficult challenges we face to do it in a way that’s nice, ie personal to each member, but also scalable - so we can maintain the same approach when there are 300, 500, 1,000 reports a day. We’re still a very, very small team and rely a lot on kind volunteers who do a tremendous amount behind-the-scenes.

I hope this helps to explain and that you continue to enjoy Latest Deals.

Tom
