In-Laws...Trouble and Strife, or Nicer Life

Other

I have two sons with two wonderful wives who are like daughters without the in-law attached. I love them dearly and far from losing my sons upon marriage they are encouraging and helpful in keeping my relationship with them and their families. I am so lucky. When I read of the hassle some families have with in-laws it really upsets me.

Do you get on with your in-laws, be they sister, mother, daughter, father etc?

Leannexxx I suppose the only good thing about that was that she wasn't openly hostile while you were together. One of my sons had a previous gf who I really disliked (older than him with grown kids) but I still treated her as one of the family knowing it would fizzle out, which of course it did.

Lynibis lol I was with him 14 years and we still live together funny the issues she had with me she never once mentioned them to me I would have liked her to tell me the truth coz she would have got some back too 😂

I had a brilliant first mother in law, always helpful but not interfering and willing to be helped. The second one will accept no help whatsoever even though it would be to her advantage. As for sibling in laws she stopped speaking when her brother and I split, my sibling/children cut contact when I remarried in June.

I am always surprised when people don't get on with their in laws, how does something like that work in the long run.

jms19 I agree. I truly believe it's a fake it until you make it situation. Kill them with kindness then no one will have cause for complaint.

I have mostly got on with in-laws but not always. Father in law gone now and mum in law in dementia care home so a bit different. Husband has 3 sisters and I have a bit of trouble with the eldest one. The others are fine.

My mother in law is like a 2nd mother to me. Before my husbands Granny passed away she was my Granny also. She insisted I called her Granny and she used to tell people I was her Grand daughter, she never used in law. Brother in law is like a wee brother to me. Husband and my dad are always at the football together. We often have family dinners.

MrsCraig that is so lovely to read. There seem to be so many family members at war with each other, if they can't get on it is no wonder that neighbours, friends, strangers, right up to whole countries, end up at war.

Lynibis I get on better with my inlaws than some of my other family members. I'm really lucky with my inlaws, they've always been great.

I get on very well with my husband father ( my father in law) so much so the other day he was trying to ‘tinger’ my bottom while I was getting on my shoes. He is 92!

janphoenix51 I am glad to hear that so many have good in law relationships. I hear of so many disparaging, mainly, mother in laws about daughters in law and vice versa.

I get on perfectly with my MIL. Infact all my in laws. I no longer have my parents or grandparents here but my in laws are as good as a second parents/grandparents to me. My MIL was incredible supportive during my parents illness and would often visit my mam during her hospital stays. They became friends. I love my in laws dearly

Glitterandgold that's wonderful so glad you have them as your own family are no longer here. I do love it when people get on well, especially relations.
