Increase in Council Tax
In the News
Just received a letter from my local council which stated they are increasing tax and even people on benefits have to pay from their pocket.
I was thinking how unfair it will be struggling families.
I don't think it's unfair because I pay just short 200 a month and 5 houses up because they social housing only pay 87 paid for no contribution they only have to pay about 5 a month anyway its one less pack of cigarettes every 2 months
So many people from all walks of life are struggling. Just hope the extra money raised will be put to good use
we have had a freeze on council tax the past 3 years, so the increase was bound to happen, as everything seems to be hiked up these days
Oh great and guess who is about to move to a new house with an extra bedroom which will cost more? Where does this extra money go to I wonder? As someone who lives by the River Severn, not on flood defences it would appear.
I wonder where the money goes and what improvements are made. I just hope they don’t go on a bin strike again in Birmingham leaving rubbish in the streets for months!
AliceBell64468 I really wish they would do something about the river severn. It isn't global warning as the Romans had trouble with the severn flooding. That's what it does because we are low lying along side it (and the River wye and avon) They manage in amsterdam. They sorted out a system to protect the houses as they are below sea level, I believe, but we can't do it in this country. I would rather they spend millions on this than sent money abroad to help people. It's bad for people in places like Tewkesbury. We have a local joke; we call it the 'Isle of Tewkesbury' and when I use to work for NHS, when we had to phone or email staff working there we would send 'greetings from the mainland' and ask if they needed a boat. It's not funny really but it goes under water every year.
I totally agree with you ShellyAnn. I am not clever enough to comment on global warming but I do know that over the centuries there have been many periods of outlandish, extreme weather. We need to begin building houses on stilts or, as you said, manage flooding in the way of the Netherlands.
I work and pay my tax but I also know not everyone is working in this country and they are not unemployed by choice, they have to stay at home for real reasons.
I think these council tax increases are unfair to everyone, as year after year they increase the council tax by more than inflation ( in my area anyway) and certainly by more than most peoples wage increases.
to be fair it does annoy me, obviously you pay part to policing and the maintenance. however we can rarely get the old bill out for anything and the amount of broken bottles and litter down in the streets are ridiculous.
i do feel for families on benefits having to pay the extra to. sometimes people dont have enough spare money to cover everything.
