Instagram Influencer
Ask a Question
A lot of instagrammers are very similar in content/ posts.
What makes people want to follow others, what do you wish to gain from their accounts ?
Why on earth would anyone with half a brain of their own "follow" an "influencer" ?
The very word suggests the "followers" are weak minded and gullible . If they can't decide what their own opinions are (unless told ) then its a very sad state to be in .
Tom if you enter this comp then scroll down, just under T & Cs there is another comp to win a meet and greet with Dwayne Johnson.

Mostly because they can't think for themselves and need someone to tell them what to read, watch, eat, what to wear, make up, who's in who's out. In other words they allow another human being to foist their own opinions on them and lose the capability to think for themselves.
It's no wonder the last couple of generations are such snowflakes and can't seem to cope with everyday life. Harsh but true and it makes me really cross as they are the most privileged generations to have ever lived.
Couldn't have put it better myself . The "entitled " generation should become individuals and think for themselves rather than follow nonentities . Seems we have bred a generation of mindless "followers" , not leaders - and that explains a lot !
It's rather sad too as the less they do think for themselves, the less they can think for themselves, it's a catch 22 situation which isn't going to improve anytime soon. Isn't it absurd that anyone would need someone to 'follow'. We are back to Zager & Evans again!
tumblespots "Isn't it absurd that anyone would need someone to 'follow'" Correct.
It’s interesting to listen to other people’s opinions re- the last comment about the privileged generations- this is a very good point!
I think this has been blown way out of proportion. You may speak some truths there Lynibis and Golfforall. However, these influencers are just a modern alternative to idols. We all grew up worshiping the ground some artist walked on and at some point wanted to be them or in some cases with them. Now, I know some of these people on Instagram are annoying as ****. However, if you think about it - is it that bad for young people to follow and be influenced by them if they are truly talented and have a positive impact on lives? As I said, some are annoying, very annoying. However, let's try to be open minded about this. Fashion, trends... don't tell me you look back at photos and see a young person who didn't follow something or someone at some point.
Idols we worshipped didn't try to tell us how to live.
It IS bad to be influenced by brainless morons who don't know what they are talking about half the time. People need to find their own style, path, look etc without trying and failing to look like an impossible image to obtain. They also need to learn about subjects that interest them and make up their own minds rather than parrot someone else.
Actually, I may be a rarity but I never followed anything and just bought fashions that suited me that were on sale at the time. I never worshipped idols, but liked many, and at no stage in my life did I brainlessly follow another as I have always had the intelligence to know they are no better than me. Taking advice and learning from academia is another matter.
Influencers are in it for the money and their own egos.
Lynibis People need to do is what makes them happy. I agree somebody should not feel pressured to be like someone else but that happened even before the Internet. No influencer is telling anybody what to do. People chose to follow. You're arguing against something that has happened for a very long time while any form of media has existed. Some of these people on Instagram are very talented and clever and have a positive impact. Others may be idiots. Our opinions on them could possibly be subjective based on seeing one photo of them without really digging deeper into their background and how they became so famous. With pop stars, actors and the rest (the people who were followed before Instagram existed) there are good and bad ones too! The term 'influencer' gets on my nerves but I think you're making too many assumptions about them here. Look at this woman. She's technically an 'influencer': https://influencermatchmaker.co.uk/travel-influencers/travel-mad-mum. Also, are you telling me some of the musicians I know you must have been into at some point are not in it for the money as well as the art? Some of them have massive egos!
I dont really follow hat many people on instagram, but a great way to make some good money if you have a following. Some of then can make thousands a month.
Is Mrs Hinch classed as an influencer? If so then she's the only one I follow. Besides friends I usually just follow local shops or makers of things that interest me (crafty stuff)
I’ve yet to follow anyone. I might be tempted to follow a few pet accounts some day, just because I do love looking at animal posts, but everything else is just blah for me
I don't think I follow anyone on Instagram that would be classed as an influencer. I mainly follow accounts that post photographs I like. Plus, some brands for new product information and film related accounts.
I don’t follow any influencers, I like my feed to be full of things I enjoy like cars, dogs and competitions!
